How did you get married?
Discussion
I was having having a conversation with my other half about how we would get married, when we decide to do so, and I wondered what others had done? I suppose I am from a fairly traditional upbringing, whatever that means these days, and suggested that I would want family and friends there as I got married in a church. This idea appaulled her and she responded with:
Save money from the cost of my idea of a wedding so that we can get married at the Nurburgring. First of all this money would be used to get an amazing car (suggestions on a postcard). Her suggestion was we have two witnesses in the car with us while we go round the track and actually get married while lapping. We then spend the following week driving in the new car. Then head to California to go skiing for a week, then the following week sunning ourselves on the beach there.
This sounds awesome, and I would love it, but feel that if I were to agree she would come to regret it. Also I feel that some of my friends and family would feel very left out by this.
So... Any interesting stories to tell, and more importantly am I onto a winner?

Ours was a traditional wedding, two weeks ago. It's some downer that hits you a few days afterwards when you've got nowt to look forward to!
The wedding ceremony was at my wife's local church, and the reception at a local country house. Of course there had to be petrolhead overtones, one of the wedding cars was a Panamera
Do whatever feels right for you both, don't be pushed into anything. You only do it once (hopefully).

The church only cost us about £350. The reception venue hire was the big one (~10k).
Whatever direction you go, don't rush deciding, when you think you have an idea of what you do want to do try and air it to family early and gently to prepare them. I hope you get on well with her mother at the moment.

Sounds like a brilliant idea! Much more exciting than a church. Have your friends and family at the track so when you get out the car married, you can all celebrate and then perhaps head off to a hotel for a party?
If it's her idea, then I am sure she won't regret it. What is there to regret? You and your family and friends will always remember it i'm sure.
I got married in mauritius, spent the money on 3 weeks there rather than all that church malarky. Had parents and a couple of friends with us. Never regretted it and that was 9 years ago.
ETA I contemplated getting married on the start line at Brands Hatch, but the guaranteed sunshine lured me away.

I don't get all these modern ideas to get married, everyone trying to outdo one another.
Lapping the track while getting married? Madness.
If she loves track driving so much, do a bit for the honeymoon.
I plan to get married in my former school chapel, ideally I would love a hog roast or BBQ for a dinner, a nice band and a dance floor. Nothing too fancy.

SWMBO and I were discussing this last weekend at a friends wedding..
I said why not spend the money of 3/4 weeks in the maldives with parents and a couple of friends coming over for a week to celebrate.. as i would see that as a better way to spend circa £10-15k than spank it all away on a church ceremony, i thought she'd be up for that ..
but it transpires that she would prefer a traditional church ceremony with all our family/friends etc involved with a huge reception meal / dance floor / band etc back home in blighty..
We came to a kind of mutual decision that a beach wedding in summer, in Cornwall would suffice with a hog roast / bbq on the beach with a marquee for a band/dance floor/bar etc into the evening then off on honeymoon shortly after.
Strange how peoples ideas differ tho, eh?

just how much were you thinking of spending on the wedding, that would give you enough to buy an 'amazing' car ?Save money from the cost of my idea of a wedding so that we can get married at the Nurburgring. I got up, put on my rented morning suit and drove to the Church via a pub.
I married Mrs Ferg in a church 30 people too small so they had to stand at the back.
Driven to my in-laws by my father-in-law in his Bentley Derby Special racer.
Drinks.
Took my jacket off for a goalpost and had a 30 minute game of football on the lawn with anyone who fancied playing.
Big meal in a big tent on the lawn.
Mingled.
More drinks.
