Hi,

My 2008 Cannondale Rush 2 has the Cannondale Carbon BB30 and carbon cranks, but it makes a clicking/cracking noise when I'm pedalling hard which is becoming worse. The BB is a hollow one. Is the BB serviceable or does it need replacing? What's actually happened to it? There doesn't seem to be any excess movement in there or anything.

If it needs replacing, where do I get a replacement? Am I best to get the same unit again?

Thanks a lot,

Dan

Damn You!

I was just away to start a very similar topic so I hope you don't mind if I piggyback.

I have a one month old carbon Merida with Shimano Ultegra chainset, when I'm pedalling at anything other than 'idling' a quiet, yet distinctive ticking noise can be heard from the non-drive side on the down stroke.

LBS can't look at it until next week so any ideas welcome.

Have you checked the chainring bolts? A loose one can often cause craking or clicking.

Oh, good call! Just checked it and I managed to tighten them all just over quarter of a turn.

However whilst I was out there I just realised something! My pedals are really old, loose, noisy and full of crap! My bike didn't come with pedals so I just put some old ones on I had lying around. They're probably what's causing the noise. Completely forgot I fitted them temporarily. I was going to change them for some decent ones when I had a chance.

That will be the crank arm or a pedal. On a one month old bike I would go round with a socket set and make sure that all the crank bolts are tight, they have a habit of working loose which is why bike shops offer a free checkup after 4 - 8 weeks of you purchasing the bike.

Check for play in the pedal bearing too

Yeah, I looked at them and a few others but people were saying ti's worth spending a bit extra on the sealed bearings variety.

I can't either, except for the day I slipped off the pedal and the pins grated against my shin.. through the jeans I was wearing.. Drew some blood that did wink

Been fine for over a year and not had to rebuild them though.

Question is....silver, black or blue?!

The bike is mostly black but I think it might look good in blue.
