A friend of mine is off on a world wide adventure early next year and i want to buy him something to take with that would be useful, i thought of the new maglite xl100 led torch or maybe a nice swiss army knife. Any ideas please.
Thanks.

Yep, you can get ones now that pretty much include every type of plug adapter you will ever need. They are a bit like the Apple plugs where you take off one plug, replace it with another one etc.

Some small padlocks
A few different sized bath / sink plugs
Set of decent headphones
Small LED torch to fit on a keyring
A disposable underwater camera
Some rehydration powder for when he gets the squits after eating rats balls or whatever,

That's 50 quid(ish) on the fleabay and looks like you've done loads of thinking.

Don't forget a travel toothbrush :

..because normal toothbrushes are just far too big.

This book too :

Not too sure airlines like weapons. What about a small MP3 player like a Cowon which he can put music and photos on?

depends on how long they are going for, i filled up three in 9months travelling and they became a PITA to carry around.

head torch would be good, really handy, and come in useful for reading in hostels etc when everyone else is sleeping.
