National Identity Database - scrapped.

Contactpoint (database of all children) - scrapped.

Next generation of biometric passports - scrapped.

Storage of Internet access records and emails - scrapped.

Database of those working with children - halted.

Fingerprinting children (e.g. so they can borrow books) - ban under consideration.

Summary Care Record (patient data) - aspects to be reviewed.

Health & Safety regulations - to be reviewed.

A good start, but a long way to go.

Yep, CMD stated that the Govt needs to start realising that they work for us and not the other way around - and this was after being elected. It seems to me like he is doing just that, and I am very pleased. Long may it continue.

Well, yes and no. It is a Conservative policy after all to have a smaller and less intrusive Govt, and with that comes the ability to spend less upon that Govt.

Beware because less intrusive central Government means devolving the powers to local councils. Conservative Council's are amongst the worst at snooping, using measures that were supposedly for anti terrorism to spy on their electorate for such things as school catchment areas. Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council's which are Conservative are car unfriendly and are open about having policies deliberately designed to make it unattractive to drive in their areas.

Well, let's see if CMD takes the appropriate action.

There is a difference between intrusive state systems and a local policy to manage congestion in my view.

Policies to discourage cars aren't a party issue - they are a local issue - for example, York is a Lib/Lab majority and they are very anti-car, due to teh natural constraints of a heavily visited, walled city.

wonder how many of those "big brother " policies wouldve been srapped were it not for the lib dems in the coalition?

Genuine question, I voted lib dem, exactly because of issues of the police state. Wuld be nice to know if my vote actually meant anything.

All it's going to take is another Ian Huntley for this one to come right back into favour...

Ian Huntley was a school caretaker, not a parent just delivering or collecting their, and their neighbour's children from an after school activity.

That went down really well with the estate agents i deal with, some of their staff have been on £10k training courses, sat exams and received qualifications in a totally pointless activity. Home owners have spent hundreds of pounds extra to try and sell houses for nothing. Just think how many freshly qualified HIP consultants now need new jobs, well done whichever muppet came up with the idea in the first place.

I'm glad this has happened after I finished the property section of my LPC. HIPs were so much easier to learn.
