MID has the wrong details... what to do?
Discussion
If I check the MID on AskMID for my registration number, the vehicle details come out as a Land Rover Range Rover and not the Toyota Celica I would expect.
Naturally I'm a bit worried that this apparent discrepancy might cause me to get stopped by the police. I'm not too concerned because I have valid insurance, valid licence etc. and can provide all of these at the roadside if necessary (albeit just a photocopy of my insurance certificate)
I've asked my insurance company to update the details in their database to reflect the correct car, but they say that the details on their database ARE correct, and that I need to get in touch with DVLA and ask them to update their database.
However, doing a vehicle check on DVLA shows that their database is correct too.
Are MID contactable? Doesn't look like it off their site?

TBH I would be re-inputting my reg number again just to be sure I had it right.
As I understand it, the MID is compiled from info from insurance companies it will be your insurance company that has provided the wrong details if ASKMID is indeed showing the wrong vehicle type for your registration number. Therefore your insurance company should be doing the legwork, not you.
But as I said at the top, input it again and double check it is correct before ringing them back and telling them to resubmit your details to the MID.... but properly this time....

From the horse MID mouth:
What if the details aren't correct on askMID?
You need to contact your insurance provider immediately and advise them that you have checked on www.askmid.com and the make and model details displayed are not accurate. They need to investigate and rectify this as quickly as possible to minimise the possibility of you being stopped by the police and questioned about why the MID record does not match the vehicle you are driving.

I see three main possibilities, in order of liklihood:
1) Another insurance company has entered the number incorrectly for their insured's vehicle.
2) Another RK has accidentally given the wrong number to their insurer.
3) Another RK has falsified the information they've given their insurer.
If it's not your insurer's fault, then it's probable that the entry has been made subsequent to your insurer entering your data. If your insurer updates the MID database, then the correct details should appear.
If your insurer insists the entry is correct, insist that they check via askMID (in case there's a weird glitch in the interface). If that returns an incorrect vehicle, then ask your insurer to follow it up with MID. If the main entry is incorrect, then insist your insurer rectifies it.
Keep checking.

You've had the best advice, but to others who may be interested, the MID is full of errors and is compiled with data from your inusurance co.
When I worked for Siemens, they routinely forgot to update the details of the cars they insured on the company scheme, including cars that were yours but they insured for you as you use it for work under their car scheme. So we were routinely at risk of being ANPR'd. And if you've seen the programmes on TV about this, they assume guilty until you prove otherwise, so you could be in for a long walk, being talked to like a criminal and even risk having your car crushed.
The point is, this could be you. Whenever you renew of change insurers, check the MID. And/or keep your insurance cert in the car.
