Here's the story and it may or may not be true. The guy has lots of photos of the car and gives an address in Maine, USA. I ask is this price right and he says yes.

Reason given is that he's moved to Switzerland with his job and the car can't be used or registered as it won't pass emissions. My man in the US says a ZR1 passed swiss emissions but won't pass NOISE emissions so neither will a Z06. They are intensely strict. He is less than forthcoming in his replies but it's just possible that he really is telling the truth and didn't check first.

Why not run across the border into Germany and sell it then. Well, possibly the TUV don't like them either and the V8 is taxed in a crippling way so they're not popular in Germany (most Camaros are 3.8's). Don't know about France but you don't see many Yanks there. So Europe may be a death sting for the poor old Z06 and yes, this COULD be genuine.

Trouble is it would take a jaunt to Switzerland to find out. I can tell you title is clear. Oddly the car was registered in Texas in 02 and 03 (before going to Maine presumably) so the guy could be someone who gets sent all over the world. there are no problems on Autocheck against this car.

Strange that no-one wants to risk it and yet this could be the bargain of the century. It could also be a scam. yet the seller has a good rating on ebay so....?????

Yet it says the car is in the UK?? I got the impression from him that it was in Switzerland.

No, it was reported to ebay who indicated it was an unauthorised takeover of an existing account. The e-mail replies I got coming up were from a "dave french" who seemed to know very little about the car. Ebay removed it.

Anyone having anything to do with this ad, I suggest you download Ad-Aware (free - do a Google search)and run it. Can't swear it was the source but I suddenly had 166 spyware items and a possible browser hijack appear. Even a "clean" kept revealing an errant file and running the custom scan revealed a folder that shouldn't have been there. In the end I did a System Restore to get rid of it. Be careful out there.

Could be right there, Wayne. There are a lot of spooky things going on on the Internet.

Maybe that's how that "genuine seller" managed to hijack someone's ebay identity.

Must admit I was wondering how I keep getting emails with spooky virus attachments sent from suspiciously familiar sounding names like: dodge@dart and other musclecar type names or names close to friends' email addresses, etc.

Scary

Wayne, just downloaded & ran Ad-Aware. Found 46 suspect files such as dodgy.exe files and dialers and trackers.

Looks like a recommended download!

You should all be aware that Firewalls and Internet Security packages don't stop spyware being on your computer, just like cookies.

In work, I get spam from my own e-mail address. That's how crafty they are although why I'm going to open an e-mail from myself, I don't know!

That sounds like that beagle virus to me. I don't know the specifics, but it sends an email, making up the 'from' address from your address book. Like I said though, I don't know the specifics. Search and you'll find out. You need to get a decent firewall, AV, and spyware killer.

I had been using ZoneLabs firewall for a while as it's recommended for "always on" broadband connections but it doesn't stop everything coming through.

I've even found programs that have installed on my comoputer from the internet while the firewall was running.

The virus creators and the spammers are making the Net look a whole lot less attractive then the dream that was being pushed a few years back. The only reason you need Broadband is so that all the **** advertising can download!

True but invest in a few well-chosen programmes and it's a whole lot more attractive. A good firewall, a good internet security system with automatic virus updates, a spyware killing programme, a pop-up killer and a spam destroyer and you're all set. Expensive but worth it.

Zone Labs is Ok but not great.... There are better products out there but at a cost.

The spy ware etc is OK but in truth most of what it will find will be pretty harmless.

If anything - concentrate on the AV and Firewall side as these will really protect you if set up correctly, The vast majority of things are picked up by email or dedicated attack. Obviously you get what you pay for but most FW's will protect against the average attack that is most often seen. The worrying thing that we see now is the increase in valid port attacks as these are alomost always let through by the average FW.

As to AV - make sure it is up to date (hence the benefit of the auto update) and make sure it is a very good one ! I have seen lots of customers suffer even while using some of the big brand names (if anyone wants advice then let me know).
