Well folks, I'm in the process of trying to get hold of a GENUINE Jem 7v wh. Trouble is, after having a couple of close calls with fakes, it's making me slightly paranoid!

Of course, buying from a music shop (and pref. Ibanez dealer) is the 'safest' route - but then you pay top dollar.

I've read as much as I can on how to spot a fake and am now pretty good at it - however, even the legit models seem to deviate from the 'what to look for' checklists from time to time?

So if any Jem 7v owners out there can offer any tips - I'm all ears smile

Oh, if anyone is thinking of selling then I'd also be interested! Must be a 7V WH though and must be mint! smile

I hope you're after a proper JEM7VWH! That'll be any 7VWH made before 2002 with the Lo Pro Edge Trem & Ebony Fretboard.

If you had been a little earlier I could have put you in touch with a guy who bought my old one. A mint 2000 model with the original pink lined UV Case. He's sold it now though I'm afraid.

Have you checked out www.jemsite.com? That's probably the best place to go for advice etc

I'm a Jemaholic, feel free to pm me with any questions you need answering- more than happy to help.

Here's some Jem porn for you...

My UV777PBK, JEM7VWH (Now sold), JEM7BSB, JEM7VSBL, JEM777DY (Sold)

My 15th Anniversary JEM77FP (Sold)

And Neville, Vai's LA Custom Shop Bad Horsie Prototype which was used on the Fire Garden & G3 Tour. Can be seen on the G3 DVD in the hands of Mike Keneally. Why did I sell this guitar!? rolleyesfrown

Oh, and I also found that the monkey grip makes a great sprout holder...

biggrin

If I come across a mint JEM7VWH I'll be in touch. Hold out for a pre-2003 model, they're much better guitars. From 2003 onwards they were fitted with the Edge Pro trem which is crap imo, then the ebony board was replaced with rosewood, more recently the 5 piece necks were introduced...why, oh, why?!..

Thanks Malam, I thought you might respond wink I've seen your Jems on here in the 'show us your guitars thread' - gorgeous collection and I'm very envious smile

Yup - lo-pro edge and ebony is the one for me. There's a mint one in the US on eBay at the mo - but pricey with shipping and a long way to go if it turns up and is duff!

If you hear of any pukka ones for sale - it would be great if you could drop me a PM.

Might have a wander down to Denmark Street (not too far from where I work) and see what's about.

Will keep you posted when I finally locate one!

Just added to my first post. I'll have a look and see what I can find for you. Have you tried Rich at ibanezrules.com? He's well known in Ibanez circles and has an excellent reputation, might be worth contacting him to see what he has in stock as he doesn't always update his website smile

Somewhat off-topic guys, and apologies, but I went through Leicester Square Tube station yesterday and a busker in there was playing one of those ridiculously expensive acrylic Jem guitars.

I didn't stick around but he was midway through what must have been a fifteen minute wizardy solo in an uptempo hair-rock version of Gary Moore's 'Still Got the Blues'.

I was going to suggest ibanezrules.com too, as long as you were happy to buy from the States. Rich got hold of my BSB for me and his set up work on it was perfect.
