So.....

Just treated myself to some Mavic Carbones and need longer valves. Are valve extensions any good, or a total waste of everyone's weekend?

I've used them quite happily in the past... in fact I was looking for them the other day to use again as long valve 650c tubes are not the easist to source

Valeve extensions are fine, but remember to get tubes with removable cores.

Ermm... the ones I've got (and lost temporarily) are just hollow sleeves with an intenal thread one end, that just screws onto a regular presta valve with the business end left undone. No need to remove anything and no 'second' valve in the extension. Worked fine.

Not liking that idea much.

Mine are threaded externally at one end to screw into the valve outer and then internally at the other end to take a valve core.
