If you're working for anything other than a very small company, your IT department would probably not take too kindly to your attempts at connecting a home device to their networked PC.

Assuming you have good anti-virus software, the way forward would be to use a USB stick or removable hard disk.

However, even if your netbook is running Linux, there is a still a possibility that any files you transfer to your work PC could contain a virus. (or the other way around, as you want to do)

I would have been amazed if you could have just plugged in a cable to the USB ports to transfer files. The easiest method is (as has been mentioned) using a separate USB stick or external hard drive. Other than you will need a cross-over ethernet cable (not a patch cable which is the one normally sticking out of your ethernet port) .
Even with a patch cable it takes a little fiddling to get the machines to "share files" (check out "file sharing" in the help centre) and I doubt you'll have much luck if you haven't got admin rights on the NT machine.
Or you can always use your ipod (as I have done on the odd occasion I've left my USB stick at home) .

If it is only a few Mbs, why not just email them.
Remember dont make the solution anymore difficult than it needs to be.
Direct connection by USB or ethernet cable is more hassle than it is worth especially when USB sticks are so readily available.
