Which cheap phone and contract?

I'm after a cheapish phone and contract offering as many free minutes as i can get for minimal cash 100-300 mins should be enough I reckon.
So I've had a look at dial a phone and they have a pretty basic phone LG BL40 chocolate which claims to offer email as well as regular phone stuff. I've managed not to have a phone for the last year while I've been travelling so i'll admit i'm mildly impressed that a cheapie phone offers email - is this just some unusable gimick (for specific ISPs etc) or is it likely to work with yahoo/gmail mail services?
