I want to send out a new order form. Since the last one we have a load of big names on board which i'm sure would prompt more sales and new customers.

I wan't to put 'We supply to: XZY LTD, ABC Company, etc , etc plus many more.
However I think it looks better with the company logos. Can I use them or do I need to ask them? I don't want the hassle of calling them all just for this so might just use the company name although the logo will have a bigger impact.

I know it's discussed alot but i'm just not too sure!

Use implies endorsement, so unless you want to bin a load of them when xyz says "oi stop it"

Or says stop it, and cancels their account with you.

Ok - no enough time to do that at the moment, can I just use the name in a client list?

Why not see if you can get a proper testimonials from one of your more well known customers rather than a list of companies you supply. They will probably let you use their logo if you asks nicely and are prepared to sign whatever logo usage form they send your way.

You need to ask even if you are not using the logo but just mentioning the client name. It looks like an endorsement. There is a real danger of losing clients if you do anything like this without asking them first. Not sure which industry you are in but I work in the investment banking sector and it's specifically written in to contracts that I am not allowed to use the clients name (let alone logo) on my website for reference/promotional reasons.

Hmm ok, thanks for the advice, I think i'll leave this out!

The sector is car dealerships and we only deal with parts / service managers, I guess they can't give the go ahead for logo use so it will be head office which will take up too much time for what it's worth.

I don't think I would be comfortable calling up someone I don't know asking for a testimonial for something they have no use for (just the parts managers we deal with) anyway!

How does everyone else do it? For other sectors I speak to the MD or someone in charge and normally say we are updating the website, any chance of some kind words? That is normally a yes and we get some good stuff. Only dealing with the guy at the end of the command chain I wouldn't know what to do?

Offer them a discount, as a part of preferred client scheme?
Get it right, and they'll be asking you to put their logo on your website.

The other way is just to write to head office, explaining who you are and what you want. It's probably better because they'll write back, and you'll have hard evidence, and not just a phonecall if they decide to retract.

Writing sounds good - all seems a bit desperate though. If someone did that to me I would think they are having a hard time of it... Might try one or two and see what the response is like.

If I have a satisfied customer I ask them if they wouldn't mind writing a few words for me. Sometimes they don't, mostly they do. Easy as that.

Bt we've moved from logos on order forms to testimonials.
