I thought I’d put up a couple of pictures of some “recent” acquisitions.

In the 1950s and 1960s my Dad worked in Nigeria. My Mum and my sisters were out there as well, and in the 50s, my Mum bought my Dad an Omega Seamaster. My Dad died in 1994, and I inherited his Omega and his cufflinks. In the same year, I also visited Singapore, where I picked up an Oris 7317-40B and a (now dead) Seiko SXK007.

Now whenever I went away for a few days, I was paranoid about leaving my Dad’s watch in the house, in case we got burgled, so I’d always leave it with friends. About three years ago we were in the process of selling our house, so we boxed up a load of stuff, and chucked out stuff too.

At some point during all this, my Dad’s Omega and cuff links and my Oris went missing. We searched high and low for them, but couldn’t find them anywhere, so we came to the conclusion that they were lost forever. I wasn’t bothered about the Oris, but I was annoyed about my Dad’s watch and cuff links. It wasn’t their monetary worth, but their sentimental value, especially as I’d bought a Hirsch strap for my Dad a few years before he died.

Anyway, yesterday my mate Colin rang me. She’d (it’s a long story but “Colin” is, and always has been, a she!) found my watches and cufflinks.

So the Omega and the Oris are back with me, and as you can see from the photos, I’ve still got the original guarantee card. Apologies for the quality of my photos!

I thought I'd posted this here at the same time I'd posted on TZ, but I obviously didn't click the "submit" button as I thought.

Fantastic news Dibble! You must be delighted to get your Dad's watch and cufflinks back, they must be priceless... party

You might want to consider getting yourself a safe, so you can be sure your goods are secure in your absence.
These guys are very good.

Quite an unusual piepan-type dial on the Seamaster.

That's the original dial. I think the watch was bought in 1956. The Hirsch strap I bought for my Dad seems to go quite well, but I'd like to know what was on it originally. I think it was either a leather or a canvas strap, but that rotted in the humidity/heat of 1950s west Africa.

I'd also like some more details on the Oris - I've still got the box, receipt etc, but can't find anything on the net about it (when it was made from/to, etc).
