Hi

I have been given a brand new (in box etc) iPhone 3G (8gb) which I don't need as I just upgraded to an iphone 4. My friend wants to buy it, but I haven't a clue what it's worth and don't want to rip him off.

Any ideas of a ball park value?

TIA

P

Completed ebay auctions range around the 185/215 mark.

Which is quite a lot really, IMHO.

Suspect you'd get less from a phone scrapper though.

Sold mine about 10 days ago on ebay.
It had a scratch on the screen that wouldn't polish out about an inch long and a crack at the recharging point.

Sold for £185 - I was rather pleased as my upgrade to Iphone 4 cost me £170.

Mine (8gb, jailbroken, small scuffs on rear) went for £175 which was a bit disappointing but more than the £120ish quoted by Mazuma etc. I wonder if the jailbreak actually put people off.

Really? I sold a first gen iPhone on ebay a few weeks back, jailbroken, 8GB, with a few scuffs for £145. I thought that it was already jailbroken would have increased, not decreased, the value. Saves someone from having to do it themselves...

I tend to find though that it's about the quality of photos and description that provides a good correlation to final sale price. The more/better you can do with your article, the more people have confidence in what they're bidding on.
