As our sportpack is in for bodywork repairs, I'm having to drive around in that feckin b*****d 8 port engined git-of-a-car that wont bloody run properly at part throttle

Throughly hacked off with it after only 2 days, I decided to do a bit of googling and today I think I've dicovered what the problem is

I have a haynes weber manual, but it's not exactly light reading. I found an extremely good explantion of how webers work and the setting up procedure on a Ford Capri Laser website (I know, I'm desparate though)

Basically what it is saying is the idle jets control the progression from part throttle to full throttle or idle. Too weak and it will die, to rich and it will cough and splutter.

I reckon mine is way too rich. There's lots more info on what types of idle jets there are and their use, so at last I have a starting point

To be fair, other people have mentioned progression before but I've not understood what they've meant until now.

I'm a happy bunny

Of course

I've had all the jets out tonight and got all the details of the current set-up, I just need to work out what it should be

Whilst you may be able to get it running "ok" by taking a guesstimate on jet sizes, you really need to get it on a rolling road with an operator experienced in Webers. They should be able to get it running perfectly pretty quickly, and can also optimise igntion timing whilst it's on the rollers.

Absolutely. In fact it's already been on a rolling road and it's come back in this state.

Before I take it back, or maybe find another rolling road to take it to, I want to know more about the carbs and have an idea of what's wrong with it.

I normally run it on unleaded or super unleaded if I'm at the right pump, but put some LRP in it this morning and it ran really well on the way to work.

Hmmm....
