Posters' names containing certain non-alphanumeric characters cause problems with the quoting system, as illustrated below:

The underscore character is OK
[quote=Fred ?]But a question mark character isn't

An asterisk character works OK
[quote=Fred &]But an ampersand doesn't

And the actual effects are somewhat undefined. See this example, where the username containing an ampersand is placed first in the list of quotes:

[quote=Fred &]An ampersand screws it up

Can either the quoting problem be fixed, or the posters' naming rules prevent the use of unacceptable non-alphanumerics?

Many thx - Streaky

We've changed the username rules so that people can no longer choose non-alphanumeric usernames, but we are not going to force those who already have them to change.

We will at some point fix the quoting system so it can cope, but it is likely to be a while before this is done.
