Champers is a good solid option. St Mary St, opposite the Philharmonic, just past the end of Caroline St (which is what most of the plebs call 'Chip Alley')
IIRC someone told me that Champers had shut down, and that LE Monde or The Brasserie had knocked through into the space. La Fosse below St David's Hall is a good alternative though. pugwash4x4 said:
Haven't lived in cardiff for 7 or 8 yeras so i'm not going to make any specific recommendations. However the loss of Chipply lane is a sad sad sight to behold!
It's still there and going strong. They've demolished part of the northern side to make way for the Brewery Quarter, but the important thing is that Dorothy's is still there Plotloss said:
Really? That's a shame if so, that place is/was a landmark
Champers went about 2 years ago and is a bar now. The Braz next door is still going as is Le Monde. The Braz is not as good as it was but I had a great meal in Le Monde a few weeks ago.
Another good choice is Le Gallois in Canton.
Bit sad to hear of Champers going, was always excellent food there!
Heard good things about this: http://www.mintandmustard.com/
Intend to try it next time I'm down there.

The Dizzy Llama on Churchill Way is just the best! Not quite the fat duck but in my opinion it's better. Great food, wonderful service, excellent value for money. Altho I think you'll be extremely lucky if you can get a table there during December.

Wierd that another online 'review' mentions the fat duck as well - "Often overheard comments form the best kind of reviews. And so, when I heard someone say 'Forget the Fat Duck, go to Dizzy Llama'" For balance to this spam, check out this 2/5 review http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g1864...
'three out of four of us were seriously unimpressed with the food'
'In conclusion I wouldn't go to Dizzy Llama again'
