What looks the best
Discussion
Take a look at www.corvette.com or come to the Surrey meeting at the Fairmile next Tuesday and compare Nige's (vetteheadracer) Z06 next to the other C5 s there. I assume you're bringing it Nige? IMHO C5s look much better in the flesh ("plastic!")
Up to you what looks best and whether you could live without the removable roof of the coupe.
I haven't taken my roof off since I got the AC working on my car, but it's a C4 and taking the roof off one of those is a real job.

Having never seen a Zo6, is it better looking than a c5 coupe, and if so which features are an improvement.
thx
A z06 looks like this:
Small vents in front of the rear wheels for brake cooling, no removable roof, and a flat back with sharp fall-off on the rear window, little grills over the front vents.
C5 Coupe looks like this:
Sloped rear opening hatch, no vents in front of the rear wheels.
IMHO, the Z06 looks better. I wanted a LS-1 Hard top (none LS-6 Z06, if you like), but as these were only produced for 2 years, getting one is tough in the UK.
It remains to me a mystery why the hardtop body style and/or LS6 has never been made available in Europe. So far I've not heard about any bodies for C6 other than coupe and convertible. The C5 is my first vette and for me it was the shape with a big sloping glass tail that defined a classic Corvette profile.
The Z06 is oft criticised for having a "big ass" but it's something you either like or you don't. The cut-off window is for weight reduction. The fixed roof coupe was originally introduced in 1999 as a sports edition of the C5. It has much better structural rigidity. the coupe came with Z51 suspension, manual box and sports rear axle ratio.
They took the fixed roof coupe in 2001 and made it a Z06 only body style. Again, it was used because it's about 100lbs lighter than the liftback and because it has far greater stiffness. It also has a unique FE4 sports suspension. The 2001 model produced 385bhp and was improved in many areas for 2002 to produce 405bhp but it also had better exhaust, sodium filled valves, HUD etc.
Road tests have proven the Z06 to be the equal of Ferraris and Porsches in handling and performance, a task the softer C5 could never quite achieve. Even with the new C6, GM are only promising track performance at least 75% of the Z06 so there's little doubt that the Z06 represents a pinnacle of Corvette development in terms of handling....so far.
The liftback is probably the prettier car in my view and many Vette buyers want the targa or a convertible to make the most of the fantastic British weather (LOL).
Millbrook stock a very nice book of Road and Track C5 road tests which will have you frothing at the mouth to buy a Z06. I know. I was and I am.
