Video: When Roundabouts Go Bad

What not to do on a gyratory...

It's hard to know who's to blame for the bizarre driving in this video - the drivers or the people who made the roundabout.

Mind you, considering just how many people mis-read the layout of this roundabout in German (we think) surburbia, perhaps the fault lies with the road planners.

After all, when you think how many people in the UK entirely ignore painted mini-roundabouts, a larger one that's represented by nothing more than a white line is bound to encourage confusion and abuse. And there's certainly plenty of that in this video....

Ps - if you don't want the world's most annoying tune stuck in your head all day, we suggest you watch the video on mute

I don't understand why it's causing so many problems?

Its just a roundabout?

Do they not have them in Germany normally?

Partially a product of bad design and construction, but its not exactly hard to see what you're supposed to do! A raised island would soon sort it, you'd hope!

I laughed at the car that got 'stuck' in the middle with other cars circling it.

Found the music annoyingly catchy. frown

The road markings leading up to it would promote veering to the right so why did so many people ignore that and go straight ahead? Clearly its a roundabout, what a bunch of idiots...

TBH it look slike lack of observation and a load of people pre-programmed into their daily driving habbits - not recognising a new road layout.

A lot of the people shown in the video were IMO correctly cutting over the offending paint where there were no other road users. What got me was the number of people who were just going to drive right on - hence I presume this was recently a cross roads with the through road running from top to bottom.

Mini roundabouts are not there to drive round when you don't have to, think of the negative environmental impact if we all did that... Traffic planners in Edin have been ripping up roundabouts and replacing them with traffic lights - end result - MASSIVE DELAYS and pollution. Numpties, just like the idiots who narrow road junctions and sanctioned traffic calming measures which discriminate against small cars and promote the ownership of 4x4's... Seems the only people who can use small cars are rural owners who don't go offroad and have a 4x4 for the winter.

Looks to me as if they just need to learn how to use a roundabout.

it is Germany, going by the taxis

couple of things:

Roundabouts aren't common at all in Germany

normally, in the absence of markings 'Right before Left' applies

they need to put something in the middle of that fking thing

Absolutely what I was thinking. Lay grass and put plants or something in the actual circle of the round about and the public will be less likely to drive over the top of it!

If you have to use a roundabout in Germany...............

I'd stop the car 200m short, park up, walk up to it and case the joint first...........
