Hi, im due to pop in to my local OPC as one or two wheels on my 20mth old 996 has lacquer bubling on the wheel rim. They are in a position where curbing would not touch and are bubling. What will they do, do you think.

I think they wheel should be replaced under warranty.

just an update,

the opc took a photo of the bubling on one wheel and said photo will be sent to porsche gb to decide on if its covered. He wouldnt be pressed if from experience they would repair/replace the wheel.

opc guy did say that if they didnt agree, i could always write to porshce gb.

Hmmmm. car is 22 mths, and was just about to look to put an order in for a 997 for about 1 years time. lets hope Porshce Gb agree that wheel lacquer should not be bubling.

My girlfriend had similar bubbling on her 1 year old MR2. Toyota replaced all four wheels FOC.

I think bubbling is a manufacturing defect and should yherefore be replaced at no cost to yourself.

If you have sport design wheels, I think your OPC may admit that they are rather prone to this...

....yep my sport designs suffered this. A complete split rim refurb sorted it though. Didn't think there was much chance of opc doing it as they are 36months old.
