Typical insurance cost by car group
Discussion
Can anyone tell me 'typical' insurance cost by car group? I don't even know what car it'll be for, as the insurance cost is part of the decision.
It doesn't need to be for my area, or my age group. I'd just be interested to see difference costs for different insurance groups. i.e What's the % difference in cost between group 14 and group 20 cars for someone over 30 with a clean licence, in a relatively crime-free town?
Thanks.

No, I imagine someone has sat through hours of tedium getting online quotes for many different cars. As I said, I don't care about the exact values, I just want to understand how IG affects the cost of comp insurance for a middle-aged individual.-Pete- said:

Unfortunately it really doesn't work like that, would make life easier if it did but it doesn't. Every insurance company will have it's own idea how each group works and each one will have it's own price point. It really would be easier to ask how long is a piece of string.farrendahl said:

A valid point,, some insurers use 1-20, some 1-40, some 1-100 and some are totally different..-Pete- said:
But I don't want to know about string, otherwise this would be on Stringheads.
Somebody on PH has either got quotes on five or so different cars from the same insurance company, or works in insurance and can give an idea of comparitive prices.
Even if they did they wouldn't be the same for you.Somebody on PH has either got quotes on five or so different cars from the same insurance company, or works in insurance and can give an idea of comparitive prices.

Even if they did they wouldn't be the same for you.How about we skip all the "it can't be done" answers?

You can't work out any kind of pattern, or else there would be some website that did it!
This is your answer. There is no super secret baseline for each individual group, each company uses it's own standard. The baseline itself may even be something as stupid as £20 a group and then when you add all the other risk facts that get used (ie Job, address, past history, inside leg measurement etc etc etc) you then start getting close to the actual price before insurance tax and other factors (ie mark up) are added.

We can't skip the "it can't be done" because it can't be done , we arn't being awkward just for the fun of it.
This thread started 25 minutes ago you could have easily gone on a comparison site and run at least 5 quotes for different cars in that time.
