Has anyone here had a set of 4 tyres swapped from one set of wheels to another? If so, how much did it cost you (including balancing)?

I've just got a beautiful set of Rays rims and want to transfer my nearly-new Avon ZZ3's on to them.

Tenner a wheel up in the northeast, I'd go to a Independant tyre place rather than kwikfit or the like.

£12 each last month from a proper place (not quick fit) in the North West.

Cheers guys. I'll be happy if I can get them done for a tenner a corner as I'd budgeted for a fair bit more than that.

And just for the sake of not having a thread without pics. Heres a snap of my new rims, all refurbed and ready to roll biggrin

£10-£15 a corner.

Volk rims, very nice. Wish I had the money for a set, I compromised on OEM CSL's but really wanted TE37's.

Had something similar done a few weeks ago, only had 2 done and it cost me £7 for the pair to be fitted and balanced. (=

Got 4 tyres swapped over and balance and it was £9 each. It was the third place I tried though with the first two saying they didn't fit anyone else's.

Awesome wheel.

Again pay no more than £10-£15 per wheel

I was told this too, so worth phoning up first.

PS ATS quoted me £25 per wheel to fit and balance my tyres to bare rims!!! Nutters.

Drives me crazy when they say that.

My main concern is that they might damage the wheels. I know some places have right monkeys doing the tyre fitting and I'd go cptn caveman on them if they buggered them up.

Dont suppose anyone over Essex way has any recommendations?

Do you get a discount if you scrape them again and go back within 3 months?

I've been in my local independent, when a guy came in asking if they'd fit a tyre, that he'd obviously picked up elsewhere. The manager bloke told him that they wouldn't do it on the grounds of any disputes that arise over fitting quality vs tyre quality in the case of a blowout. Obviously this may be underpinned by the dealer wanting to sell tyres, but his reasons seemed fair enough to me.

Having said that, in the past I've also bought 2 tyres from Camskill and took them to my local alloy seller. He did the 2 for £15, but to this day I'm not 100% sure that he actually balanced them, as they suffered irregular wear within 12 months.

Ultimately tyres need to be fitted correctly. It's you car and your life..... Your choice!

Whereabouts in Essex?

I've not used them myself, but my garage (little father/son outfit, not in anybody's pocket for favours etc) recommend Portland Tyres in Green Lane, Dagenham very highly. Garage definitely don't appreciate st work (had bad words to say about a lot of other tyre places as comparison) and the son used to work at a tyre shop too, so when I get my tyres fitted next month or so that's where I'll be going. Popped in to ask if they could get the tyres I wanted and whilst they couldn't (slightly obscure), the chap I talked to was thoroughly nice.

Thats exactly why i learnt to fit my own tyres, two tyre leveres, 3 pieces of angle iron, some tyre soap and a decent compressor. Takes me a bit longer to break the bead than the tyre places but now ive bought the stuff it costs me nothing. Also as a lot of tyre places dont like/cant fit innertubes, it saves me the ball ache of finding someone who can.

Well £10-15 a wheel seems the going rate, but those garages must be quiet and desperate. I would charge £20-25 a wheel if I had enough time to bother.

If someone seems expensive ask yourself the following: why would they bother doing your £60 job when in the same time they can sell and fit 4 tyres? Would make them much more money....

Because the £40 goes straight into their pocket while the tyres have to go through the books ?
