How far will you go? I know to some its only metal, but I dont want scum in my house. In preperation for my new S6 or the likes (not decided yet), I am going to begin enquires about bullet resistant / impact resistant windows and doors.

Downstairs only has two windows with 2 doors so should keep costs down. That should keep everyone out bar militia with RPG's.

I know some people will think its overkill but its always interested me, now seems a good excuse. Will be nice to know when on holiday and the likes that the house is secure from anything other than a bulldozer.

Need to figure out security for the garage mind.

How about a Yale house alarm it phones you if it goes off. It has some other good features as well. You can add CCTV all depends on how much you want to spend, most people only think about security after the event?.

Most people want a easy target house wise. If it puts them off you and they go to someone else great?.

You can always add a Tracker on your car as well and Dislok and a police wheels clamp. I have all of this stuff myself.
Each to there own and there peace of mind with security. Something is better than nothing I would think.

I do think Tony Martin did the right thing as well many years ago.
People have no right to take something that is not theres.

I do not think anyone will break into his house again?.

Just some decent steel bars across the windows would suffice surely.

But in my experience, if a criminal wants something badly enough, they'll get it - even if it means waiting around for you to return home and hijack you.

This is precisely what is happening in South Africa - people have tall fences (in many cases electrified), dogs, etc.

All the criminals do, is wait for you to return home (or go out) and hijack you.

A human is a soft target.

Don't waste your money on fancy glass etc. etc.

Good luck.

Dogs are a good deterrent IMO and don't make it feel like you're living in a cage.

More seriously, I'd rather they steal the car than rape me or force me to eat glass or dog poo or something.

Trouble is, in SA for instance, the criminals will be carrying an equal amount of weapons.

best protection is one of these;

right by your front door.
This will save your life,

seriously though, bullet-proof glass/doors is stupid. If they have guns, then they are just as likely to ram a transit through your front door.
double glazing and a decent upvc door is enough.

but don't live your life in fear of theft, in putting up so much protection you are negating the point of buying a fun car, and in fact living

As opposed to the UK where the only people with the possibility of having/using firearms are the criminals for the most part........

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns.

Agree with this to some extent - although I don't drive a desireable car the keys are never particularly hard to find once you're in the house, I'd rather you found the keys and fcensoredked off before you came upstairs with a baseball bat / gun / whatever.

I employ............

The Beretta Silver Pigeon.

Keys are in the hallway, on a hook. That is the first line of defence. The keys are there, Mr Scum. Take them. I am insured. You want the car? Have it. Stay the fk out of my house.

Anyone steps past that key rack, then I will hve no hesitation removing their legs - one barrel for each.

Yes and no. When it happens, it happens bad.

Impact resistant windows and doors arent just to stop car thieves, its family and peace of mind. Now I aint scared of anyone bar my mother, but being woken up to a gang at 5am doesnt really appeal to me.

its only money.

Indeed, the human is the weakness. So you carry a gun or are a 6'6 MMA star. They'll put a gun to your wife's head when she exits her car and demand the keys to your car.

Get a dog or two.

No fker will get through my front door with my pair going at it. Even the post man stands at arms length before putting things through the letter box.

My two are the softest buggers you would ever know but if there is someone trying to get into their house, they will let them know they aren't welcome and going by the scratches down the back of the front door, they mean it.

Saying that though, I doubt anyone would be breaking in to nick the keys to my 1987 Suzuki swift anyway. And the missus 206 isn't exactly that desirable either. Hell, our TV is worth my than my car smile
