Doh! Just been through a manned speed-trap in a 30 zone. Two people in yellow jackets with the initials C.S.W. on them. Not sure if they are the Police or not? They were stood at the side of the road with a speed gun and big L.E.D. readout display thingy.

In over 20 years of driving, I can recall only one (non temporary) 30 mph zone which seemed inappropriate for its surroundings. Whatever the arguments about speed on motorways and open roads (and, yes, I do sometimes drive faster than posted limits on such roads), why go over 30 in a 30 zone?

Then may I invite you to Buckinghamshire?

We have miles of previously NSL single-carriageway roads that are now 30 limits...

That sounds like a bad thing. My main beef about speed limits concerns multi lane roads into/out of London, on which variable speed limits would seem sensible.

what was the alleged speed the sign said, which was obviously totally inaccurate? :P

If you were speeding, they would note your reg down and pass onto the police who will write to you with a ticking off, unless you were seriously speeding in which they will pay you a visit, however, they will not prosecute.

Not sure what speed it said as i slammed the anchors on as soon as i saw them - they appeared as soon as i came around the corner. I had to stop my laptop and lunchbox flying through the van window! I was deffo over. I'm not proud of myself before anyone starts with the lectures wink

Lecture not necessary - speed limits are arbitrary and only reflect the agenda pushed by 'those-in-power'.

My opinion is firmly set now after having to bow to fluctuating red 50 and 60 LED discs on an empty M6 around Birmingham the other night. Why? rage

Oh and even better doing 60-odd through a 60 one only for it to change down to 50 as I'm passing it!

Stupid controlling scensoredt mad

If they were Police the clue would be that it would say "POLICE" instead of CSW

That'll be the nudge button wink
They used to have them in petrol service stations when you'd done your best to put in £5.00 and as youre putting back the nozzle it goes to £5.01

I will assume that the volenteer do gooders will also have the correct trainign of the equipment and that they can provide the correct calibration reports of the equipment and can show the correct procedures of transporting the equipment correctly....

That's carzy. Villages have enough problems with people doing over 30 through them. if the NSL roads are reduced to 30 it'll be even harder for the mouth breathers to understand the difference.

Was caught speeding at one of these places a few weeks ago (Chideock I think). Slammed the brakes on when I saw the jackets.
Had a letter from the Police 2 weeks ago warning me about my conduct
