For those who read the FT in companies section pg 28: you will see that the current design bloke is to be replaced with the man from Saab. He is Michael Mauer, 41 was in Saab and resp. for concepts like the 9-3X (off road/coupe cross-over..uuuhh) & 9-3 sports hatch. Reading this it says he will inject fresh thinking into the brand blah blah blah...and before Saab he was at Mercedes, and he did the small A-class & SLK models and also was resp for Smart car evolution.

They should have got the English bloke back who restyled the 993. I think his name was Hatter.

Tony Hatter has been there all the time and in fact led the team responsible for the Carrera GT.
Does this mean Harm Lagaay's left? Really nice guy, raced an Elfin Can Am car. Total car nut, he was responsible for the BMW Z1.

If Tony Hatter has led the team, how come Lagaay gets the credit, did he (Lagaay) actually draw it?. Has Tony Hatter worked on anything else noteworthy?

It's about time Porsche jerked the guy out of the desk, who did the botch job on the Cayenne.

Putting a "Porsche" front end on a SUV is criminal. It looks like something like a clone job gone bad. They had a perfect opportunity to set new standards with a fresh design, but no, they had to bastardize the design of the entire marque.

Let's hope this guy get's a shot at the Cayenne, and fast.

Well ANYONE is better then Chris Bangle- the man responsible for detroying the brutal and agressive lines of BMWs and dissolving their ergonomic interiors and justifying it all with some pretentious camp art college talk.
The man also responsible for the hideous Fiat Coupe of the mid nighties!

Hatter, a hand in noteworthy designs?
As you yourself pointed out veewhy, the 993, specifically the front wings. The Boxster. The GT1 and Le Mans liveries.
I see him next week, I'll ask what else.

John,

I think the guy did a superb job on the 993, so much so, i bought one for that reason alone. I could have bought a 996 or (almost) any other Porker, but the 993 is an utter conclusive statement of the air-cooled 911's. I have had it for 4 years and still stare when i pop to the garage fridge for something..., I also feel he showed a certain modesty in his interpretation of the design. He did (as i'm sure he knows) just enough to freeze that sillouette in a timeless vision. it really is quite perfect. I'm a keen follower of auto-design since a young kid, and still there are only a few designer/stylists that easily trip of the tongue, the 993 almost has a separate identity emerging such, that though he restyled it, and bearing in mind it is/was a 911, he deserves the credit he gets (at least from this quarter). I really would like to know more about him and his work. Their is something so very Messchersmit meets Spitfire about it.

Well....................if the guy is coming from SAAB, then perhaps he'll change the front end of the Cayenne from a "carp" to a "fish with a smile on its face"

Sheesh, we ask so little, at least they could do thaaat for us????
