Hi all, hows things?

Have been saving the pennies for a while now and am looking to purchase a radar/GPS detector. I had a crappy 'radio shack' thing years ago which was worse than useless, and have figured that the latest modern types are far better.

But which one?? I have been looking at either the Snooper S6R neo, or the Origin B2. Which is best or have I discounted another type?

GPS I guess is very good, and coupled with Radar for all round detection would be the ultimate.

Any info would be great cheers

IMHO

Origin B2 with LRC-100 attached. Also next month (allegedly) the radar head comes out as well that just attaches.

Of course you still need to cover the rear of the car.

I have got the Origin B2 with the LRC 100 Laser Jammer and it works really well, just fitted it (the jammer that is) and you have to look really hard to see it under the reg plate

As for the B2 - it is probably the most complete GPS system on the market at the moment. It has the most comprehensive database as it includes DS2 (piezo speed sensors burried in the road - I was shocked to see how many I actually passed in a trip to inverness recently) My dad has the Road Angel and it's good but not half as informative as the B2. One thing with the Road Angel is it seems to place a great deal of emphasis on warning you of blackspots (on the A19 near Durham it goes mad for about 5 miles) so you soon get brassed off with it. The B2 has a feature where you can also set your own warnings - called "personal waypoints" basically if you know where a safety camera regularly parks up you can make a personal warning - hence you don't forget as the unit beeps like mad.

In summary - best GPS unit (just wait someone will come along soon and tell you about the Roadpilot!)
but if you can afford it add the LRC 100 jammer just to give you full cover.

Oh - one more thing. The B2 gives you the option of adding a radar detector. This is currently not available (should be ready about July) it will cost £100 + P&P from origin. From what I hear it will only detect "K" band radar signals. It's a worthwhile addittion if your local camera vans use radar (mine do) but if you want it to detect radar from FIP's (fixed Gatso cameras) you will not get a great deal of warning (and remember you have the GPS to warn you anyway) It works well on handheld radar and mobile van radar cos there signals are really strong.

hope this helps.

Download the latest v1.7 (been out for ages) version of the software and you can select to only download Cameras.

I could not be doing with the Blackspots either.

Devices that alert of schools etc at 3-4 pm fair enough, but the blackspot alert mid dual carriageway was giving me too many heart attacks!

I have the S6R-Neo: Generally pretty pleased with it, as it has the optional Radar/Laser detector, but...I have found a number of obvious cameras on well travelled roads (like the A1!) have not been on their database. Must have about 25 or 30 saved points on my unit now, whilst I wait for Snooper to catch up. Also, very occasionally, it seems to lose signal strength and needs switching off and on again...no big deal, but at the end of the day, these things are not cheap.

Did help me do Truro to Twickham in 3 hours on the A303 recently though...

Jammer is next on the list, as everybody knows that laser detectors alone are a waste of money...what are peoples experience with the Target (I forget the model) unit?

I have the Road Angel which i consider the best GPS/Laser detector available, as it's easy to use in many vehicles without having to buy car kits for each vehicle at extra expense. Also the lifetime subscription is only £99 or £49 for a year on renewal.

If you want a neat and tidy small unit, then go for the Origin B2, but it needs a proper install which may cost extra unless you are fairly competent with car electricals, and dismantling interior of your car.

I think these are the best two units on the market, and both can have an LRC100 garage door opener bolted on as an extra if you wish.

I have the Snooper S4 Neo with optional radar detector but am very annoyed about snooper's awful database. Despite being in London (Scamera City), several Gatso's around where I live are not being picked up by the GPS. I know they are "live" gatso's as the radar detects them, and they are even listed on official websites of London Scameras. I have Uploaded the GPS positions of each of them, which is easy to do with the snooper, but despite all their blurb about how they regularly check out new sites the public inform them about, they have still not added them after 6 weeks.

I've got the Bell 550 Euro which is and always has been superb.
Also got a Origin B1 GPS.
Great combination and my car looks evil with all the gadgets stuck to the windscreen. They have both saved my license on many occasions.

another road angel user. I looked at all before buying and decided it was the best. Only thing against it is that its not the smallest unit and, IMHO, not the prettiest looking piece of equipment. (I like shiney things with bright lights )
