Both Gaffer and I have noticed over the past few days on both our machines at home and mine at work that the Gassing Station locks up momentarily every few minutes. You needen't be doing anything for it to happenn, even just a bit of a scroll.

I loaded the Task Manager to the System Tray to watch the CPU and it appears that every few minutes, the CPU hits 100% for 5 seconds or so before going back down to it's usual 4% or whatever. Defo IE taking the CPU time and only happens on GS from what I can see.

As I said, 3 different machines on two different connections all XP with 6.0.2800 SP2

Not just me then.........I've been swearing at my PC when it does it.

Is it the new hotlinks? Which by the way I know when you click them the take you different sites but when you hover the mouse pointer over them they also show a beige background description at the bottom of the page, unless the link is at the top in which case you can't see it.

Don't think it's those links FWD (unless I'm accidentally scrolling over one or some such). Even when I don't go anywhere near them, everything does a go-slow every so often. I'll try and record a few things next time it happens to try and decipher what's happening. Definitely only been happening for, I don't know, perhaps a week or so now...?

I thought it was just mine!

My computer always "hangs" a little if I float over the drop down menus, but recently the screen scrolls a little freely, but then stops for about 10 seconds before scrolling freely again. Very odd!

Mine is playing up too.

The screen loads on my monitor, but it shows it is still loading at the bottom bar, which is making everything extra slow. Only been happening this week too. I also don't get the hotlinks on either my mac at work or the pc at home... weird.

Yep, just checked, the progress bar at the bottom never completes text on the left still says 'Opening.....whatever it is opening'

Nothing to do with the new default1 page for larger resolutions is it?

No, I mean the loading of the links slowing up the sceen rather than the mouse going over them. The other bit was just an additional problem I've found

Mine's fine here at work, but dodgy at home, so not even consistency to help a diagnosis.

Pheew not just me either... I was wondering if it was my PC, but it was only happening on here.

I also think this could be a side effect of Teds new forum hyperlinks in the posts perhaps..? I notice it most when I load a thread and try to scroll immediately.. and for me its more like most pages than every 5 minutes..

Cheers
Matt.

Mine does it too, on my work laptop (XP Home Edition) and my home PC (Win 98).

It's crap on Netscape under Unix anyway so I probably wouldn't notice the additonal delay on my SPARC system.

Ted hasn't commented as yet folks, but is it just IE (6?) or are people experiencing this on other browsers too?

(IE6 SP1 / XP here, same problem)

Win2000 / IE 6.0

I'm betting its related to those hyperlinks.. I'm not getting the problem on any other gassing station pages (such as my topics/last three hours) where there are no forum posts, just the actual threads.

Update: it just happened on the "last three hours page", so its not just the threads themselves.

Cheers,
Matt

I too thought it was just me!! Being a bit of a pc klutz, I thought my mouse/pointer were sticking, noticed it's only on PH Gassing, thought "can i have worn the link out somehow?" much recent swearing.

It's just as roop described, it suddenly seizes up and won't scroll or switch back or on to another thread. Thanks for speaking up, guys and girls !

It's not the hyperlinks. I think it's a problem with the serving of a particular advert. Investigations are ongoing
