One of the LEDs in my hoop spoiler (1995 993 C2) has failed. How easy is it to replace, anyone know?

The bulbs can be replaced by soldering. The part number for the bulb is #999 631 135 90. I think they cost about 2 or 3 quid.

I have the 3rd light at the top of the rear window and this information applies to that fitment. I'm assuming the same bulbs are used in the hoop spoiler so u need to check.

Thanks -- the garage I took the car to for its last service done said it was an LED -- I was a bit surprised but assumed they knew what they were talking about. Then they said it was a soldering iron job and would take them a while.

Well, I can handle a soldering iron, so if that's all it takes I might as well do it myself -- assuming I can get the hoop off the car in the first place of course.

Is it easy? It looks like a bolt at either end.

Well, it was dead easy removing the light strip on my turbo but mine is located at the top of the window. Pull the spoiler off and then its 2 10mm nuts to remove and bingo! On your's I don't know due to the different location. I'm sure it probably just as easy.

Manek - had to have some of mine done a while back but it was done by OPC while car was in for service (silly me at their rates!).

Anyhow - if you do it yourself I suggest that you check all the bulbs in case any have 'silvered over'.

FWIW that's OPC talk for 'we fit cheap components and they crap out and you have to pay to get them replaced'.

They might still be working.... just. So its worth replacing them while you are at it.

I seem to recall that there's a 'how to' on Rennlist.

Thanks Meldrew. Had a look on Rennlist for the topic and words around it but a search fails to find anything useful. Have you got a link?

Hi Manek,

Sorry, it was the p-car site not rennlist. I was sure that there was an item relating to the hoop LEDS but the following link, on a very quick look, seems to relate to the rear screen fitting.

Hope it might be helpful nevertheless:-
