Hi all,

Quick question for you. A girl in my office has asked me (as the resident petrol head) what I think her dad’s bike is worth, trouble is I don’t know much about bikes, so I was wondering if you could help me out?

It’s a ’99 ‘T’ CBR 900 Fireblade, it has only had 1 owner from new and has only done 80 (yes 80) miles! Apparently he bought it brand new and scared himself silly riding it and has hardly used it since, as a consequence its condition is supposedly brilliant.

Any ideas, cos I haven’t a clue!

Cheers

Matt

P.S. This is not and ad and I am in no way related to the seller, just trying to get an idea of price for a friend.

[Sharp intake of breath - like a plumber] The bikes obviously been underused. There could be all kinds of problems with the engine. Could be siezed. Tyres will be shot. Battery will be knackered.

I'll take it off his hands for a few hundred.

My ZX6 was laid up (year in plaster, long story)

99T 2,500 miles got £3,2k on a trade in

I guess it would be a few quid more than that, but take off £200 for new tyres, the old ones will be like bakelite

The bike will need a very careful service to fully drain all fuids, replace all seals (probably including the fork seals), chain, battery, clean out the carbs, flush out all the coolant, put flushing oil through the engine, new caliper seals......

Although, despite all the work it will need (incl. tyres will be knocking on a grand unless you do it yourself), it will be in such good nick that this will offset the costs side of things. I reckon about £4k. It may be worth advertising it in MCN to flog to a collector. I don't think they're that collectable though!

I will buy it. sadly £2500 is a good offer, its "worth" more, but in comparison to year old prices of current machinery, you just won't fetch that

Ive sold several 2 yr old bikes recently for £3000..

people can afford "new" so just don't look at second hand..
