Don't know about the legality of it, but I wouldn't risk it in today's blame culture.
No doubt you have a 'duty of care' for the passenger and in an accident, the injuries could be horrific.
Crewed for an emergency ambulance years ago and have had both a casualty, who fell out of the back of a pick up, on a corner and fractured his skull on the kerb.
Also, when working on a patient once doing heart massage, the ambulance had to do an emergency stop and I almost went through the front windscreen, as the sliding door was open and I was launched at it.
Don't risk it!
