Looks like its not too far in the future but they're talking about £18 to download a new release for an individual. What are peoples thoughts?

Mainstream cinemas (and film studios) have been delivering an overpriced soulless bland experience for decades now, it's finally their turn to get a damn good shoeing like the high street record shops/record companies have got, shame it's taken so long really.

Cinemas are crap anyway. I hate them, they're a horrid environment full of people I hate making noise, while I'm forced to sit through what feels like hours of trailers and stupid messages. It just seems like such an outdated business model to me, and I find it impossible to enjoy the experience amongst the great unwashed.

One one hand I wouldn't pay 18 quid very often to watch something, but for some big releases I probably would as an occasional luxury.

I think that £18 split between a group of friends is much better than paying £10 each to sit in a cinema surrounded by people having a 'I can crunch my popcorn louder than you competition'.

I think home cinema technology has now become good enough and affordable enough for people to watch these films at home and enjoy the experience.

A top drawer cinema with a good crowd (or on an empty afternoon) will still be hard to beat, but I'd agree with the sentiments above. There will be the inevitable backlash by the cinema chains but they have to realise that this is where the technology is taking us all. I'd be much happier paying £5 for a download I could keep for say 3 viewings to watch in the comfort of my own home.

Whilst all the time wondering if your car will have been keyed or receive the collateral damage associated with impressing the "ladies" in the car park grand prix...

But would I pay £18? Probably not. But then again, probably 90% of films I've watched in the past 5 years have been on aeroplanes (and that's mainly just to kill time).

Personally I'd wait until it's out on DVD and rent it, but then I've got young kids and a three year cinema backlog biggrin that said, once you've paid for tickets, drinks and popcorn for two £18 seems like a bargain.

£18, what planet are they on? £3 is more realistic.

I couldn't care less what cinema chains think, the auditorium is full of people taking phone calls, crunching sweets, coughing, laughing inappropriately, children running around, people getting up to use the toilet, people getting bored and talking, people asking "what's happening", laser pointers on the screen, smoking, sticky carpets, expensive food and drink.

Cinemas are st.

Rent it for over £15? Wait for the Blu Ray release and then you can watch it time and time again.

as ste as cinema's are

the price is way too high for people for the service to be used regular

fair enough when they do often go its 2 tickets plus food which might equate to £18 but it needs to be sub-£10

I have a 1080p projector and AV kit. However it's still a treat for me to go to the cinema.

I actually enjoy going to the cinema.

I don't enjoy other cinema-goers.

Why do I like the cinema? - larger screen than I'll ever have at home and I get to see the moie as soon as possible

However, the experience is getting more and more tarnished by inconsiderate people doing many of the items mentioned in this thread before and one I haven't seen mentioned - kicking the back of your chair. It might only be a light tap, but it's very annoying.

Would I pay £18 for a movie at home - damn right I would. I get to see it as soon as possible still, but not get stung for poor food / snacks and irretable gets in the seats near me

If it goes ahead, then there's little doubt that some of those clever hacker types will crack any of the copy protection within weeks of release, and then the P2P networks will be inundated with high quality copies of the latest reboot/sequel.

I went to see 'District 9' in a cinema in Dundee, along with my son.

It was an afternoon, and the cinema was nearly empty.

Just before the film started two ladies who looked as if they enjoyed their food sat just across from us.

The film was ruined by them munching their way through 2 ASDA bags full of crisps and sweets, all of which seemed to be in specially noisy plastic.

On the way out they marched over to the sweet counter.

So, yes please for downloads!

Cinemas are too bloody loud too. They hurt my ears they play stuff so loud. Then 30mins+ of adverts.

I'd happily get a few mates round to watch a good film and avoid retards etc.

Now, if cinemas stopped having adverts (I pay, so I shouldn't have to watch them), and threw out tossers, I might go back, but it's not going to happen.

If you have some friends over the cost it's negligible. Depends if you have a nice AV setup or not (I do not).
