Just noticed an item in last week's local paper to the effect that Surrey CC have voted to establish a scamera partnership. Surrey Police Authority to decide later this month whether to go ahead.

As it stands Surrey is apparently one of only three police forces (oops services!) not to be participating in a scamera job creation and motorist taxation scheme.

It is to be hoped that the Chief Constable persists in what, on past evidence, is an enlightened approach and boots the idea into touch. What's the betting that the politically correct jobsworths on the Police Authority will overrule him.

>>> Edited by meldrewlives on Thursday 20th May 08:46 to say that anybody interested might like to note the content of the following item from the agenda for today's Police Authority Meeting:-

www.surreypa.gov.uk/docs/May04/21.%20The%20road%20safety%20toolbox.doc

Apart from the interesting statistics elsewhere in the document there is a recommendation to "produce a business case" on page 10.

Oh yes - and 9 out of the 17 members of the authority are Surrey County Councillors - looks like a done deal then. Makes me want to vomit.

So write to all the local papers.

your letter said:

Sirs,

It appears that the local Police Authority are contemplating forming a Safety Camera Partnership.

I have strong views on the matter but I feel it is important for the local electorate to know that nine of the seventeen members of the committee are elected County Councillors.

Their names are:

Mr Greenie Meanie.
Mrs Lentil Muncher
Mr Sandal Beardie
...
...

Constituents of their wards might find this information valuable when deciding to show support or concern about this matter.

After all...its just information already in the public domain! There is nothing councillors hate more than an informed electorate...who are unlikely to show much support for ideas likely to cost them money...

Note that in the list of "Primary Causes of collision", "Exceeded speed limit" is responsible for only 7 (yes seven!) KSI collisions in Surrey from Oct 2003 to March 2004, which represents 3.0% of the total.

Seems that Surrey drivers don't need cameras.

Has anyone told them about Durham? Seems to be the only place left where KSI is going down. Wonder why!
