can anyone in the know help me out? are mad max style exhausts (ie - exhausts coming up the side of the car) legal? would they have to fall within the wing mirror line or some similar clause? also, come MOT time, if they block a rear door, is that a fail? what if i delock and permamnently close the doors? the car in mind will be fully stripped with only 2 seats - do the rear doors have to open?

TIA

Yikes that sounds worryingly misguided. Any car that deserves to have a side exit exhaust does not have 4 doors. And no you couldnt delock and permanently shut the rear ones unless you made it possible for passengers in the rear to easily bail out of the front - folding front seat style.

I'm sure you can do that to the back, provided you ditch the back seats and effectively turn the car into a van...

sidepipes are not illegal but they do have to be fitted so that you cant burn or even lightly toast anyone going past......i think it comes under the mot requirement anyway.

as for shutting off 2 doors.....why not sell the 4 door and get a 2-door car?

thanks for the replies guys - seems then that i can do it as long as i dont get too carried away! im using a 4 door as its what ive been given and to mess around swapping bits and pieces about is going to be a real headache. therefore im sticking with 4 doors. by delocking and running the car with only 2 seats im hopeful that the MOT aspect can be worked around, but there are other problems to overcome before i have to make a firm decision!
