Hiho,

Was wondering if I should be expecting a knock on the door any time soon ....

Went out for a drive today and was on my way home through Petworth. Followed a Maroon Ford Mondeo through Petworth. Exited Petworth on the A272 heading to wards Wisborough Green. Those of you who know it, know that soon after turning right at the mini round about the road becomes de-restricted. As we entered the de-restricted area we were doing about 40-45 mph. There was me at the back, the Mondeo in front and two other vehicles about 10 car lengths in front of it. Now this part of the road is just over a mile long and as straight as an arrow.

As we were only doing 45 mph I decided to over take the Mondeo and then slot back between it and the vehicles in front and then look for the next opportunity to make progress. (Looking down the road there as nothing coming the other way all the way down the 1 mile road)

I indicated, moved out and started to over take the Mondeo when it too started to accelerate, but not as progressively as me.

At this point I had two options.
a. Accelerate harder and over take the Mondeo or
b. Break and drop back behind.

I chose (a) and carried on over taking with the Mondeo still accelerating. By the time I passed the Mondeo there was no room for me to slot in the space I originally intended to, so I carried on and over took the other two vehicles as the road ahead was still clear.

Soon after completing the overtake I pulled back in and looked in the rear view mirror where I saw the Mondeo over taking the other two vehicles with its lights flashing and a couple of blue lights going as well.

Not knowing if it was for me or not, I looked for the safest place and pulled over - all still within the 1 mile stretch. The Mondeo, still flashing, drove past me and carried on down the road! And of course the other two cars I over took followed the Mondeo and went passed me as well

So, what I want to know was, was the Mondeo accelerating to attend an incident (no flashing lights at its back when I started to over take it) and therefore carried on past me? Or was it a case of "we know his plate, will get him at home"? And finally, did I do anything wrong?

TIA

They should know better than top change speed without checking their mirrors.

Just as a matter of interest........
There's a house on the left about 3/4 of a mile after the mini roundabout. Right behind it is a concealed turning into a field.
I was out for a blast once with a mate who has spent years driving tractors/harvesters etc in the area, he said "watch out for farmers coming out of there without looking" (it's a bit blind for them as they pull out onto the road as the house is in the way).
Lo & behold the next time I'm driving past this is exactly what happens.
I take it a bit easier along there now.
