I was once told it was illegal to serve a turbo shandy, where half a pint of lager is in a pint glass and a bottle of smirnoff ice is added: the bar owner said he couldn't legally sell that drink, which was clearly bullst, but was likely his way of backing up his rule against a drink that generally went hand and hand with thuggish behaviour.
Actually, i've been told this aswell previously more than once.so i was served a half pint, bottle of WKD and an empty pint glass.
Must be some truth to it? why else would they put themselves though the hassle?

Back when I was in liverpool at Uni we used to get Quadvod and redbull for £2.50. You got 2 glasses with 2 shots of vodka in each and then poured them together before leaving the bar. I can't see them serving in this way all night every week unless they legally had to do so...
Yeah in Liverpool uni at the mo... best thing is a quadvod with a blue/orange/whatever vz/wkd etc. as the mixer. Still serve the vodka in two separate glasses now, adds up to 5.6 units in less than a pint glass... combine 2 of those with a few pint downing races and you can be on the floor in an hour.bulldog5046 said:

Or failing that it was just far too efficient at getting people far too drunk.

I think the reason you can't find anything is because it is a matter for the discretion of the licencee, not by any Act or Statutory Instrument.
Many pubs are owned by large corporates so the factor in play is likely to be their corporate social responsibilty guidelines. A tenant landlord is not going to bite the hand that feeds him/her.
Many SU bars have a policy of a complete ban on triple measures.
Indeed, people are getting confused by what is illegal and what is a simple policy, nothing really to get worked up about, people on the whole are pretty dumb I would of thought most people on here would be used to it by now. Many pubs are owned by large corporates so the factor in play is likely to be their corporate social responsibilty guidelines. That's what I thought, albeit a policy made up on the spot (the manageress was drunk at the time of saying), a few people at work don't recognize the difference between law and branch policy, but you never know what 18th century rules no-one has gotten round to repealing yet.R11ysf said:
I think this is likely to be company policy, I have a photo of a Weatherspoons poster from Newcastle last year which was about 10 feet high and said
"3 trebles for £4.99"
You gotta keep them happy some how!!
"3 trebles" ? so surely that means 9 measures, a true bargin at £4.99 even by Pikiespoons standards."3 trebles for £4.99"

Used to know lots of place around Liverpool that did trebles for the price of doubles all in same glass with mixer, only time seen something like this is when a mate asked for black russians or something containing vodka and tia maria and it came in seperate glasses.
Oh and one time in manchester, a certain bar refused a mate who had asked for a pint of... golden.. he would only serve him a half a lager, and a half a bitter in half pint glasses.. and no pint glass to pour it onto!
(bit like when I was in some strange place where I asked for a bottle of white wine, dozy bint came back with one of them farting 125ml miniture wine bottles and looked at me stupid when I explained I wanted a full size bottle, took them ten whole minutes to muster one from the back of a fridge.. strange people bearing in mind I had asked for two glasses as well)
