speed awareness course

A colleague of mine was done for 73 in a 70 recently and sent on one of these courses. I guess they were trying to make up numbers that week.
Evidence would be appreciated. AFAIK, no PHer has ever adduced on here any documentary evidence in support of claims of "speeding" at less than the ACPO "bottom level" of 'limit' X 10% + 2 mph over the posted limit.Streaky

Said colleague isn't in the office today, but I'll ask him on Monday whether he was embellishing the story somewhat. It was a couple of months ago and the figures stuck in my mind.Streaky

As with all these, 'a mate of mine colleagues sisters brothers fathers mother' type posts, nobody has ever posted evidence of a NIP at less than 10% of the speed limit alleged to have been exceeded.
Just word of mouth bull, until someone actually posts evidence.
So you're saying I'm a liar then? I saw it with my own eyes.Just word of mouth bull, until someone actually posts evidence.

I went on one back in November last year for doing 36 in a 30. The person next to me had been caught doing 33 in a 30, of course when they queried it to the person doing the talk they were soon told how that 3mph makes such a difference to your braking distance!
Using source http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_...
as no sign of this in new HC, this doc makes it aprox 5 yards.
But hang on ,any ancients on here who passed their test in the late 60's. I remember learning this by rote, and working out how to calculate stopping distance from a formula. At 30 it was total =75 yards. ( speed times 2.5 ,in feet). But what vehicle ,what brakes and tyres. Some old RWD on cross-ply tyres with drum brakes all round no servo and certainly no ABS.
Strange ( or is it ) that no changes have been made to the above PDF, OR is it another bit of fiddling with road safety by the so called road safety lot. I smell a rat ( usually found on sea going vessels), to justify keeping the "fees" for minor indiscretions in the local SCP hands .

You don't meet the criteria for a course until the speed limit +10% +2mph is reached so those at 73 in a 70 and less than 35 in a 30 wouldn't be invited.
As someone said above it sounds like embellishment or distortion.
And as the old 45 record said "That's the name of the game"As someone said above it sounds like embellishment or distortion.
Wondered when sonar would pick this thread up and you'd surface

I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine sitting in a stuffy room being bored to death for 6 hours....As someone said above it sounds like embellishment or distortion.
Hi Collective
Just been sent a nice photo of me in car doing 39 in a 30 by Suffolk constabulary notice says I can attend a speed awareness course if I have not been on one in the last 3 years and these courses are only offered if the speed detected was up to 10% over plus 9mph above any speed limit (30 - 70) mph.
Cheers Trev
