Is a VW DSG gearbox considered an automatic or a manual ?

They dont use a clutch to connect the engine to the gearbox, but they do use clutches inside the gearbox itself. Hope that's cleared things up for you.

The OP's question was about the normal definition of clutch. Your response was just an attempt to be smug and pedantic, so on that front......yes you have cleared things up for me.

Auto's (well all cars) have more than one clutch, but to most people when we say the clutch we don't need to explain which one.
