Yep, me too! After 10 years got zapped during the Welsh Rally. Cops were all over the place and I should have been more aware. Awaiting the details as it's a company car. Going to contest if I can.

Isn't it difficult to keep within the limits.

I ended up with such a huge queue behind me last night (on the same road I had been caught on earlier).
(semi rural road).

Took my licence etc (in envelope) to a small local post office yesterday to get a recorded delivery for a fixed penalty speeding offence.

The postmaster said he was keeping a record of people sending their licences off for fixed penalties purely as a matter of interest ......... it was 11.00 a.m. and mine was number 17 that day. He said that the record so far was about a month ago when he had a total of 116 in one day.

My Road Angel picked all of the Gatso's, so I can only imagine it was a sneaky van. 86 mph on a clear day with light traffic. Heading back to Wales today, so I'll be taking it really easy!

This was a Galaxy People Carrier.
Must have been parked on the farm track.
Rural road, nice and straight and flat, good visibility. No one about, apart from the Corsa in front of me who disapeared, faster than me. ? why did they not do that one?

What's the general view on this? Is it worth contesting if you are zapped my a mobile gatso? Or should you just bit the bullet and accept the fine and points? What the increase on insurance premiums for 3 points?

My sincere commiserations to you Ellie. My license has been clean for 47 years, but I expect that will change in due course. Crackpot system!!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Yes it is worth contesting, some mobile vans are manned by civilian operators, if so they have no grounds for prosecution. If it is a mobile ALWAYS ask for the POLICE OFFICERS number and ask for the video 'to identify who was driving'.

A recent court case has confirmed it must be a serving POLICE OFFICER who forms the initial impression of speed over the limit, the speed measuring device just corroborates this.

Me too Dave; I refuse to let these dreadful people spoil what limited enjoyment there is left in driving now.
There is one other point about this though that I think is very important.
If you have developed what your own experience has proven to you, is a first class, safe and considerate driving technique, there is a clear danger in modifying that in any way just to suit the current enforcement lobby.
It could actually be counter productive and turn you into a robotic, non instinctive driver, you know, just like 85% of the driving public!!

0-10% loading (if at all, 90% of insurance companies don't care about an SP, PC or TS 3 pointer)

typically insurances on both cars are due for renewal soon!

As to fighting it - I did the crime I now have to pay the price.

As stated about changing your driving techniques making it less safe.
I agree wholeheartedly.

Drove last night (after the event) and on my way to work this morning. I feel as though I am less observant, gazing in shop windows as I crawl past, looking at houses and gardens.
Not holding the steering wheel safely.
I am not claiming that I was the worlds best driver, but I felt that I always drove within my capabilities and appropriately for the road conditions. I felt as if I was a nuisance to other roadusers (queues behind me for example).

I will get a hold of myself, soon and normal (careful) proceeding will continue.

Got done last December, a week before Christmas.

My b2 kindly told me that I'd been zapped by laser.

Wouldn't worry too much about first three points as most insurers seem to think it's the norm these days and don't penalise you.

Mind you, you have now joined the rest of us convicted criminals and will soon, no doubt, be mentioned on Crimewatch....

do these 'convictions' get classed as a tick for
a crime reported, a tick for a person charged and a tick for a prosecution and an even bigger tick for a conviction.

so the Govt can say we have cought x amount more criminal then the last govt, that they have also punished x amount more criminal to make them sound better then the last government?

and lump all crims in the smae leauge table as rape, murder, theft, violence etc thus 'improving' their standings and spin?

Hello James,

Yes I thought we might be pretty much on the same wavelength. My driving style has indeed evolved over a very long period of time and a lot of miles, so I think I have a fair idea of what works safely and what doesn't. Even so, there are still little points to pick up and benefit from, like Paul mentioned the other day about tyre pressure problems.

What you say about robotic functioning is quite interesting. Several months ago, arriving at the outskirts of Scarborough, I reduced speed to comply with the 30 limit. As soon as I had done that I had a strange feeling that a distinct change of approach took place. It was almost as if I could view my thought processes from the outside, and see myself saying: "OK, I've got down to the speed limit, I've done my duty, and there is nothing else I need to do."
As a result of that I found I lost some degree of concentration until I realised how my thinking had changed, and then I returned to looking at things properly again.

I've maybe not explained that very well, and some may think it's all nonsense anyhow, but at the time the feeling was quite marked and very strange. I honestly do think there is a genuine problem somewhere in that area, connected with speed limits and being diverted away from our natural pace.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Ellie only crap insurance companies charge extra for speeding offences. You see there is no statistical evidence that it makes you more likely to crash. Cheer up the revolution will come soon and you can get back to charriot racing.

I expect the other car was not so easily traceable. I have long thought that only the easier catches are caught. Too much effort / paperwork to go for the Corsa.
