Missing Front Number Plate
Discussion
Whats the damage for being caught without a front number plate?
Had the new company car 5 days and the front plate has gone missing
1) Dealer says need to speak to lease company
2) Lease company says speak to local dealer
3) Local dealer says too much hassle now with paper work don't do replacement
4) Halfords will but want documents as long as your arm including V5 and Photo ID
5) Can't explain why photo ID when the car is a company car and the insurance in the company name - there is nothing on any official form that links the car to me so why prove who i am?
6) Lease company doesn't have V5 as DVLA don't issue for several weeks
7) No problem says Halfords - chassis number will do
8) Lease company doesn't have that either as dealer hasn't supplied the paperwork yet.
In the meantime I am not walking and don't care for Blunkett's vision of Stassi GB so carry on driving.

ehmm, surely the chassis number is on the chassis?
Surely the chassis number is printed on the chassis somewhere? Mine is also on the windscreen, but on the plate under the bonnet, under the carpet by the driver's seat or under the carpet in the boot are normally good places to look.
I think its a £30 fpn for not having a number plate at all, seem to remember this is as its less than having a dodgily spaced / otherwise illegal plate.

I've driven all summer with no front plate and don't intend to get one for next year either, spoils the look of the car and there's no vertical point to attach it to. Not been pulled and driven in front of and behind police cars on several occasions when they've seen the front of the car. I think they've got better things to be doing, especially as I've got a legal plate on the rear.
£30 non endorsable for NO plate. 3points and upto £1000 for damaged covered, illegal font etc plate.
I've just snapped mine and am in the same position. I've just got a new one off fancyplates.
www.fancyplates.com
If you use their standard plate configerer it gives a legally spaced plate overnight if you order earlier enough for about £11 inc postage. They will even put the BS# and name on if you ring them up... NO ID NO V5 etc.
easy

Dealers being a Tw*t, they can soon sort one out if they felt like it.
Had a similar situation a while back. Lost my number plate off the back of my artic trailer at Avonmouth. Went in to the local motor factors to get one, and heard all the bollocks you did. What got me more than anything, was the truck was outside, number plates front and rear on the tractor for the bloke to stick his head out of the door and look at I ended up having to take the plate off the back of the tractor to clip on the back of the trailer.
I don't mind of course, if it means criminals can no longer commit car crime with false plates

Yep it is but in Stassi UK it isn't good enough for me to tell them what it is has to be verified.
You get the same thing with passports trying to sort out two for the kids - you can't beleive the amount of paperwork involved.
Just go to your local market. I got my last 2 made up, about 3 months ago. He was quicker than the dealer, and £14 the pair (with euro-GB symbol), as opposed to about £20.
No problems, told him what I wanted, job done in about 20 mins. Nice ‘clean’ plate with no stupid dealer names, phone numbers, post codes, etc.
