Per Manchester Evening News (Brian Lashley reports)

Speed cams are tobe introduced at 31 new locations across Manchester - at areas of "communuity concern"

The new campaign was launched at the junction of Kingsway and Fogg Lane - Burnage - where allegedly - there has been one death and seven collisions over past three years...

One of them involved Michael Weaver (13) who featured in BBC "Real Life" on hit and run drivers in their throwaway cars

His mother Amanda backed the campaign:

"Losing my son was devastating, Sticking to the speed limit can mean difference between life and death. Drivers need to slow down. Hopefully this will make a big difference to saving lives ... "

Oh dear ... whilst most of us will sympathise and offer condolences to this grief stricken lady (grief stricken beyond reason) - one has to pass comment that no speed camera would have saved Michael. He was murdered (for want of a better word) by an uninsured, probably unlicenced twazak in a throwaway. A yob who could not give a for the laws of the land and would not give a about sticking to a speed limit - and it is more than highly unlikely that a speed camera would have brought him to justice either ....a poor deluded lady in grief and anger...no doubt brainwashed by Brake's Victim Support people as well.... I do know what they try on from own personal experiences ....

GMP's spokesman Insp Brian Wood said:

"The whole idea of the speed limit is for people's safety"

Streetcop - hold on to your dog collar and stay off the pulpit!

Councillor Richard Cowell (Planning depts) said:

"The sites are not picked at random. They have been identified as areas where there have been collisions!"

and KSIs?

Burnage Councillor said:

"The cameras are not there to make money. They are there to stop drivers speeding and protect the public at large from motorists... Drivers should stick to the speed limit!"
