Oh great. Tell the BiB you're plate has gone walkies, and before you know it, you're being stopped twice a day because they think you're the scrote who nicked it?

Wow! what a surprise, technology failing.

That's why the DVLA needs a system for quickly issuing new registrations - if you're going to have to buy new plates you might as well buy a different set.

Perhaps the police could take the report, mark the plate as stolen, get a new registration issued and then issue a special ticket so that owner can get a new set made up.

Number plate theft has always gone on. I don't doubt that ANPR may well make the figures rise. But rest assured, plenty of disqualified, wanted, uninsured etc.. are being caught by ANPR that would otherwise have gone undetected.

Of course. There's good reason for ANPR. But there's no acknowledgement at present that it can and does cause problems for the victims of ID theft. It happened to me a couple of years ago and I had to go to court before the speeding charge against me was dropped -- and it cost a solicitor and a day off work to achieve it.

Yup happened to my lad, he was sent a letter from Camden Council for a bus lane violation, we had to send photos and witness statements to prove he was actually at a friends funeral in Hertfordshire before we heard no more from them, no apology, no sorry we were wrong. Great system guys

and if plates were inside the windows at least they wouldn't be stolen and the car would look smoother and cleaner

Amazingly, the police in guildford have not worked it out. I guess they are too busy spitroasting chav slappers and beating up irish people to work it out.

FFS ! ITS THE ANPR STATION NEAR SEND ON A3 ! EVERYTIME A CHAV WANTS TO GO INTO LONDON DOWN THE A3, THEY NICK A PLATE !
