Why do they brake? and other annoying things.
Discussion
..when you're about to go past?
I know how much room I need, so why do they mess it up by slamming on the brakes which nearly causes you to clip them? (this applies to fast or slow vehicles, hence a different thread)
And why do some folkes think it safer to speed up when you are along side? grrrr !
What about the plums who drive so close to the car infront, that you can't leapfrog the line cleanly?

I dunno. I’ve been wondering if it’s because a lot people think that when they’re in a car they’re in a queue.
Or at least, when there are more than about three other cars on a single carriageway road, the rules of queuing apply. Or something.
Here’s a nice one: Going from Edinburgh to Glasgow, on the M8, between 4:30and 6:00 is dire. It’s a 2-lane M-way, but everyone except the truck is going at about 60 in lane 2, and following too close.
Unless you make huge efforts, or have blues and twos, you won’t be able to average much more than 60 in these conditions. So I can’t be bothered with this and sit in lane 1 at 55. Lots of space.
Eventually I come to the truck. It’s doing 50 in lane 1 (this truck is why all these psychic drivers are in lane 2 in the first place). So I indicate to move out and what do my fellow drivers do? They close gaps that are already too small! Jeez. I’ve been carefully not undertaking anyone, though they probably haven’t noticed this.
Sometimes, just for meanness, even when the truck is not in sight, I select a target psychic and think “Right. Bet I can get you to move up even closer to the car in front. So I indicate right and, “Yep. Thought so.” This works surprisingly often.

Answer? Undertake. On the M8 (amongst others) I find the best way to make progress is to drive in the inside lane and undertake the stupid drivers who look like they are in a funeral procession, such is there regimented attitude to hogging the outside lane.
Providing you are on your toes, undertaking is the best way to let someone know they are in the wrong lane, and perfectly safe.
