Looks like one of those things that tells you what speed you're doing or flashes a sad face when you go over the limit.

It's a lunchbox, used to hold sandwiches and an apple in inclement weather.

perhaps it is one of those traffic measuring boxes, soon to have the strips added across the road.
It could be fixed higher up to stop the local youths smashing it up?

There was something similar around here a while back. It had air quality measuring kit in it. Could be along those lines.

The box is just a heavy duty case I have one identical to it. Its whats inside it that will be interesting. Is there a little spy hole with a camera pointing at your bedroom window?

It looks like a battery pack for a demountable vehicle activated sign - you know, the 20/30/40 mph roundels that flash at you if you approach too quickly.

Eta typical photos of the box here: http://www.westcotec.co.uk/static/products7e.html

Got a street view link to it? Might give more of a clue. smile

I didn't mean the unit was a battery - it's the secure weatherproof casing that battery packs go in to for VAS units, among other things.

It'll have been put up by the highways dept, or someone working on their behalf.
