NO THEY ARE NOT
Well I work with the highways agency and that is what they have told me.They are on the m4 at least are used to enforce the lower speed limits.
You seem to making a blanket statemen regarding all gantry cameras no matter were they are and I think that the cases differs depending on were they are and who is operating them.

I can vouch for the M1 managed section around Nottingham; At quiet periods I have never disrupted my cruise control through there and have not been flashed (yet...). I have, however seen them flash when a lower limit has been set.
And CharlieBangBang - no need to shout.

I think you have both made blanket statements, TBH. There seems to be anecdotal evidence that they are in use in some parts of the country but not others (yet).

To clarify my statement relates to the cameras in highways agency area 1/2.I can vouch for the M1 managed section around Nottingham; At quiet periods I have never disrupted my cruise control through there and have not been flashed (yet...). What happens in other areas I can't comment.
The national stratergy is getting sections of motorway that require lower limits at times of pinch point/peak flow is to have cameras availble to enforce these lower limits rather than flash temporary speed limits on the small martix boards that are unenforable and ignored by many.

There is and I did that deliberately but thanks for the observation. I can vouch for the M1 managed section around Nottingham; At quiet periods I have never disrupted my cruise control through there and have not been flashed (yet...). I have, however seen them flash when a lower limit has been set.

Care to enlighten us as to which areas (1/2) these coverWhat happens in other areas I can't comment.

If you are senior enough in the HA then when all those who are prosecuted for exceeding the NSL can be immune from prosecution. Apparently that's what government promises can do for you these days.
As I understand it the HA build and manage roads they do not do enforcement and certainly do not set police enforcement policy. As such readers can make what they wish of HA advice regarding enforcement policy.

Are these devices not HADEC’s (HIGHWAYS AGENCY Digital Enforcement Cameras) ?If you are senior enough in the HA then when all those who are prosecuted for exceeding the NSL can be immune from prosecution. Apparently that's what government promises can do for you these days.

The M1 and M62 gantry cameras don't flash when they are not showing a reduced limit. On Sunday night, the M1 cameras in that 25 mile or so section around Luton were flashing away while enforcing 405, 50 and 60 limits.
They do. Perhaps they haven't when you have passed them.Edited by mygoldfishbowl on Friday 7th March 13:49

They aren't used to enforce speed limits over 70mph.
THEY AREjbsportstech said:
They are only active in areas like the ones on the m4 when the speed limit is lower and displayed in a red ring on the avriable signs.

Like I said the ha look to enforce with the local police temporary speed limits within area 2 bristol gantry. That was what I was told by the ha was the stratergy.
What they do outside area 2 I cant be 100% sure, but enforcement of speed limits on motorways has always been as far as I am aware since the formation of HA to enforce reduced limits to protects work force and or to reduce congestion and risk of incident. There has never been speed cameras to proscute people exceeding 70mph that I know of.

Your mate at the HA isn't aware of any police policy for that area and if he thinks he is he is not displaying that.
