A friend was mugged at knife point but...
Discussion
So, a friend of mine was mugged at knife point by three lads, at a bus stop.
They went through his pockets and took his wallet and mobile phone.
He reported it to the police who appeared to be relatively uninterested.
Using Google maps, he has managed to track his mobile phone to a fairly specific area, and has notified the police to this effect, however the response was "saving lives is more important".
Sadly, his phone wasn't insured, so this is his only hope of getting it back, and yet the very people who are supposed to enforce the law just don't seem to care.
What a shame.

Even if it gave to within a couple of houses would an occupancy check not tell them who lives there and whether they are known to the Police
You could check the electoral role (often a waste of time as its hardly updated) or previous logs to the addresses given but it all depends on how many houses there are in the specific area.Being known to the plod isn't grounds to smash a door in looking for a phone either. If there was a prolific character that lived in one of the houses and he had previous for similar and the description given by the victim matches him then fair enough police could try for a warrant. Its not as easy as saying "my phone is in this street" though.

Can you post up the offence location and a copy of the crime number,or if it hasn't been crimed, the log number? They went through his pockets and took his wallet and mobile phone.

I'm sure that there may be BiB on here
who can have a look at the referring report/log.
Or even better, get your friend to post up exactly what has happened...

Are you serving BiB, by any chance?

Come on OP, post up the Google Maps location. Then we can all do a spot of MH370 style internet sleuthery and catch the perp red handed on Streetview.
I showed my 4yo our house on streetview and he looked out the window to see if he see the "camera man".I hate to tell you it's not live.
(When I show a video from my phone of him he always asks "Where are you daddy?")

He could always tell the police that he's going round to get the phone himself and if they really are more concerned with saving lives they'd better get there PDQ. He could even mention a shotgun for a more rapid (and armed) response.
PLEASE NOTE- THIS ADVICE IS BY NO MEANS SERIOUS, AND SHOULD BE READ WITH A PINCH OF THE SAME SALT LIBERALLY SPRINKLED ON THE ALLEGED 'more concerned with saving lives' RESPONSE. THE POLICE ARE VERY BUSY DOING IMPORTANT POLICE STUFF, AND PRETENDING TO HAVE A FIREARM MAY RESULT IN THE PLACEMENT OF LEAD, AT HIGH SPEED, INTO YOUR PERSON.
