An ex workmate who used to be a submariner once told of an American warship, on returning from a successful tour/exercise had the flags raised which read "second too none" as it entered Portsmouth dock. A Royal Navy ship trailing the American had their flags raised and reading "none". No idea if this is true or folklore.
The US military are a seriously weird group of people. Like all walks of life, you get the genuinely good guys but as whole I tend to steer clear when I can. They're obsessed with posturing and symbology and when I drew a comparison with a USAF Lt Col of Dubya on the aircraft carrier in full pilot rig with Stars, Stripes and eagles with Gadaffi and his (admittedly preposterous) posturing with all his bling he got properly upset, couldn't see the parallels and stormed off in massive huff and didn't speak to me for months. Not that I cared, he was generally a tt anyway. They're also not allowed to criticise their President (at least openly anyway) as to do so is punishable by Courts Martial and likely dismissal. This I find truly bizarre and it sounds like something from the third Reich where leather coated henchmen listen in dark corners for the slightest hint of dissent.
Pedants will of course know that you won't pull 4G if established in a dive, but if you add pitch then you will pull some G. Push into a dive and you experience negative G to begin with. Roll inverted and pull and you will be subject to a G loading. This will diminish as you dive, but will rise again as you pull out. You typically pull 3-4 G in a loop.

Your data on the Mig 28 is inaccurate ...I personally love the story of an American Tank buster targeting a group of UK tanks in Desert Storm . The tanks warned it off several times with n result, so the tanks decided that one tank buster who could eject was better than several dead crews and a few burnt out tanks. Bang, bang, the tank crews shot it down .

Sadly, the real story was not funny. It resulted in several dead British soldiers, and didn't stand in the way of a later promotion for one of the pilots, IIRC. An epic failure of communication plus massive doses of confirmation bias and gung ho.
That's not what he said, he said a tank shot down an A10. I'd like to see this dit because it's quite clearly a load of bks.Edited by Osinjak on Wednesday 3rd September 09:28

Yes, I know that. That allegation is not backed up by published reports, so far as I am aware. The anecdote may have arisen following the tragic strafing of UK armoured vehicles by two US National Guard A10s.
Yes I know that which is why I asked to see where that's been said because I've never heard of it.Breadvan72 said:
I think that we are both in the same page.
Absolutely. I have never heard a story about a tank shooting down an A10 because frankly it's impossible (and didn't happen) so I'm curious to know where this story exists. Who me? says, 'I personally love the story...' so I'd like to see this story (that's not a dig at Who me? by the way but if he's read this story I'd like to read it too).Red 4 said:
It is BS.
British forces have never shot down an A10.
Two A10s did however attatck a British convoy - APCs, not tanks - during the 2003 Gulf War.
One soldier was killed, many more were injured.
Mate I know, to both things, but I'd still like to read this story that Who_me? was on about.British forces have never shot down an A10.

Alas, Red, nine soldiers died in the 1993 incident. Many others have died in other US vs UK incidents. To be fair, UK vs UK incidents have also resulted in deaths, and US vs US too. British forces have never shot down an A10.
