What is the law on cyclists speeding?
Discussion
This is not in anyway a cyclist bashing thread but I am interested on the law in this situation.
Just watched the welsh speed camera video and a related video throws up this one.

Basically a couple of guys purposely set off a speed camera on a push bike. The photo captured wont identify him but they are openly showing their faces admitting what they are doing in this clip. Could and should this person be charged and is he incriminating himself?
Please lets not turn this in to a cyclist bashing thread and can we keep it to facts/the law.

Speed limits apply to motor vehicles.
There's also no requirement to have a speedometer on a pushbike.
You could probably be done for something more imaginative - sometimes 'furious cycling' is raised but I can't remember if it's a workable offence - possibly including anti-social behaviour or public order stuff.
Edit: 'wanton and furious cycling' is a thing but only seems to have been used against incidents that led to injury or death

Have tried hard to set off cameras on my mtb, down a steep local road. Couldn't do it and assumed bikes didn't have the 'mass' to set one off. Obviously I am wrong. Think my gearing is too low also....
It's radar profile, no? Not enough reflective surface. This shows it can be done. And its actually the same place I tried coincidence or what.

No requirement for a speedo on a pre 34 car or motorbike too. However, they can still be done for speeding so often have a modern cycle speedo fitted. There's also no requirement to have a speedometer on a pushbike.

Donald Campbell (if not him, it was his father) was done for furious cycling as a boy, I think he was descending a hill and got the cycle up to a high rate of knots.
As has been said, speed limits are for motorised vehicles, cycles are considered carriages with regards to the law (apparently, I don't have a great deal of knowledge about carriages to be honest).
There's significant debate about the only areas which (possibly) have a limit applicable to cyclists - the Royal Parks, specifically Richmond park.
It's going to take someone who wishes to take it to court to get that sorted out though, most people just pay the fine when zapped.

the streams of fast cyclists are a pain when crossing the roads in Richmond Park, especially with dogs. Its funny, boy racers on these roads would not be accepted but its ok for the lycra lot to pretend to be in a velodrome.

The radar on the signs that flash up your speed and tell you to slow down can detect bicycles, so it's possible a speed camera can detect bicycles too.NicD said:

How do the cyclists differ from the cars, in terms of crossing-with-dog/s?Its funny, boy racers on these roads would not be accepted but its ok for the lycra lot to pretend to be in a velodrome.
