Anyone know if the punishment is still as follows:

a) Fine (£60'ish) & 3 points

or

b) Speed Awareness Course (£70'ish) & NO points

Need to let an elderly relative know so he can stop worrying about what may or may not happen.

TIA.

Fixed Penalty these days is 3 points & £100 fine.

Speed Awareness Course (no points) in the TV area is closer to £100 - they're £95, I think.

Thank you.

To confirm, pricing aside, it is still the two options - fine & points or speed awareness course and no points.

Technically, there are also the options of no further action by TVP or the matter being proceeded to summons. Neither of which are terribly likely, in fairness.

was your relative told anything by the police if they were stopped or did they get a camera flash? Seems harsh if 35 was true speed as I thought 10%+ 2 mph was "allowed".

10% plus 2mph is the 'guideline' threshold for enforcement.

10%+2 means that 35 is the lowest speed that action will be taken for, not the highest you'll get away with. It's only a guideline in any event. By the letter of the law there's no reason you couldn't be prosecuted for doing 31, assuming the equipment was accurate enough to show that you were doing 31 not 30.

Up here in South Yorkshire, my wife got a SAC for 34 in a 30 limit

Not alone round these parts it seems

If, in the unlikely event South Yorks did issue a ticket at 34, the course is not offered at. less than 35.
