Chaps,

Another flash. Well, pair of them. On the M6, in what turned out to be an area with a temporary speed limit. There was (supposedly) roadworks, I had just turned onto the motorway (from the M1), and there were cones along the left hand edge of the road. Passed over a set of roadmarks at about 58 and a Gatso flashed, twice. 100 yards further down the road there is a 50 limit sign.

What is the legality of Scameras in areas with temporary speed restrictions? Are they the same as, and as legal as scameras in other sites?

Also, what happened to the "Don't sign the form" trick? Has this now been proved to be not a good thing to do?

Also, I was passing another car at the time of the flash, and I know that much of the back of my car was in shadow from this other car. Is it possible that the numberplate was obscured by the other vehicle? (Grasping at straws here - said I know!)

All other help welcomed ... thanks.

Oli.

1) providing the device is operating to type approval then it is legal. Location, speed limit temp or otherwise, visability, accident black spot or revenue generation site do not feature in type approvals.
2) Closed
3) A doubt it very much

If there weren't any 50 signs before the scamera it would be unenforceable, but very difficult to prove. You need pictures.

Mind you, you might be lucky. What with it being the holidays she might be out of film, or they might not get the NIP out to you in time.

Set your calendar. 14 days and ticking.

If possible get back to the location ASAP and photograph or video the sign setup. A friend with holding a video camera is probably the best you'll be able to do.

Apparently some roadworks contractors purchase Gatso housings and just use them with dummy flashes.
