Erm No I am not pulling your leg I cannot seriously believe you think speed cameras serve any purpose at 5am? Who are they protecting? Children who are going to school? Old age pensioners heading for the post office? Tell me please, I would love to know. I have regularly driven to work at this hour and the lack of traffic means most regulations are surplus to requirements I expect the same applies to traffic cops.

Are you talking about cameras or coppers??????????

I'm talking about coppers....

My force after 2am has on average 3 traffic cars (2 x bobbies in each) for the entire county!!!!

So if we have a bump on the motorway.....it takes at least 3 cars to deal with it...

If we have a fatal....we are really pulled out...

Then of course...you've got travelling criminals to deal with.....drink driving campaigns....

and of course assisting beat officer with any pursuits etc...

Not good enough for the public.....4-6 traffic officer for the entire county between 2am and 7am..

We need more coppers on the road and on the streets, and paperwork must be reduced

I am talking about cameras. Of course the typo (sitched) (Switched) did not help so spologies for that.

So just for clarity then cameras are of no earthly use at 5am other than setting fire to them.

misleading! Most accidents occur during periods of rush hour (obvious). The most significant cause of accidents during this period has been proven to be fatigue related (not with exceeding the posted limit).

I've pointed this out before, but here it is again:
www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/page/dft_rdsafety_032139.pdf
(look at page 25)

from www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=10&t=133525

Cameras do not benefit safety between 11pm-6am!

Hiya supraman..

I'm not sure who i'm misleading...but in the last 12 months in my road policing area...we've had 11 fatal RTCs. 10 of which were after 11pm at night...

Not misleading at all, i'm afraid...

Yes there are loads of bumps at rushhour....fender benders, walking wounded..etc etc..but not many fatal...

I keep saying I must get up earlier. That should be a useful aid to pointless speeding.

Er, when I say 'pointless speeding' I mean exceeding the NSL by a fair bit, without me being in receipt of points. That's what it's all about.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Lets not get into muppetry here...they don't cause them....no way in this world...

What seems to cause them..is people thinking they are Colin McRae to either impress their birds, their mates or because they are late getting somewhere...and drive like absolute tools...

Then again....when the public only see/hear/read what the media gives them....what can I or you expect..?

I don't think cameras really help in the majority of these cases. (Specifically - I don't think cameras help at all, but thats a bigger picture).

The papers (local/national) seem to be full of cases of (approx) 17-23ish year olds, fatalities at 2.30am, whatever. How many of these also include drink/drug driving? But they are also just hooning to impress their passengers, and know where the cameras are.

Sad, but they end up being less able than their egos allow, and end up killing carfulls.

Everything you say is true...

However, the drink/drug thing isn't as big as you'd think...out of those that were killed in the last few months, only one driver was over the limit.

Yesterday I was driving past the outskirts of town at around midnight and a drunkard stepped into the middle of the road to flag me down (how many 5 Series taxis do you see I ask you?!) He was wearing all dark clothes as well. Although I saw him very early and manouvred around him it could easily have been messy.

It was worrying on two accounts:
1. I was doing probably 40mph in a 30 = Front page local paper headlines "Speeder kills pedestrian" etc.
2. I've been that drunk many a time myself

Thats all very off-topic anyhow.

Bullshit, cameras kill and scumraship bosses are murderers. You cannot argue with the facts or the odd coroner. Its official so live with it.
