He must have been in too much of a rush to get to County Oak and get his break time Costa...
Going the other way Buzz... Coming FROM CostaThat whole stretch has so many traffic light controlled junctions, there's 3 or 4 in about 400m and they all have plenty of lights on either side or in front, hard to miss them all
The more I hear about these dash cams, the more I feel the need to get one.
I was the front seat passenger in a similar accident many moons ago and ended up spending a month in hospital with a broken pelvis, so I'm pleased to hear that no one was injured and you got him bang to rights.

I was turning right from a side road onto a D/C and I had a green light but a vehicle came from left to right, through a red light and collided with me... Other driver DID stop
I did phone the police but as we were not blocking the road or there were any (apparent) injuries and (unfortunately) as I did not mention on the phone that the other driver ran the red, the police concluded that they did not need to attend and they we were to sort out via insurance... which is going through now (£2,100 worth of damage)
Just come back from the police station to report the other driver and I showed them my in-car video which clearly shows my green and his red light before colliding. They have decided that they now need to compile a collision report with a view to sending out a NIP.
So, the question is... would the driver be reported for a) simply running a red light; b) Driving without Due Care or c) Dangerous driving....
I'm trying to think how you can turn right from a side road onto a d/c in the UK?I did phone the police but as we were not blocking the road or there were any (apparent) injuries and (unfortunately) as I did not mention on the phone that the other driver ran the red, the police concluded that they did not need to attend and they we were to sort out via insurance... which is going through now (£2,100 worth of damage)

Given how easy it is to apply post production effects to videos and photos (e.g. the mash-ups of the new Star Wars trailer appearing just a day after it's release) - how can the police rely on 3rd party video evidence that could quite easily have been tampered with ? In this case it would be relatively easy to change the red lights to green and vice versa, note that I'm not suggesting that the OP has done this, just wondering out loud.
In most cases I don't think it would matter - have the police arrest and show the video the other party & they'll probably admit the offence and subsequently plead guilty. There's no need to make the evidence irrefutable if the accused believe it might be & therefore admits the offence.Buzz84 said:

Is this the bit where someone pops up to call you a dashcam vigilante?
The officer said that if I had mentioned at the time that he ran a red light they would have attended to complete the collision report there and then... but i wasn't actually thinking at the time.otolith said:
I think it's perfectly reasonable, someone has done something illegal which has caused you inconvenience and cost (wait until you get your insurance renewal) and you've got the evidence to show it, but some PHers seem to think that reporting things like this is wrong.

Why don't you wait, find out and then tell us ?BO55 VXR said:

Simples.... With Traffic Lights... Looks at the pictures posted above.https://goo.gl/maps/svzk6
Reasons like the OP's accident is exactly why I got a dash cam. £70 to prove fault is much better than finding myself in a 50/50 claim. I put one in sons car as well. A woman ran up his arse end last month. She wasn't at all happy about having to pay for the damage she'd caused and decided to tell the insurance son was over the line of the junction and about to pull out (not that it mattered if he was, she hit him). Dashcam proved he wasn't over the line and insurance were grateful for the footage.
A relative of mine was rear ended at a roundabout as he waited on his bike. Car driver claimed he'd rolled back into the car and it was a hell of a fight to prove he didn't. A camera would have sorted this instantly.

Unfortunately, they can actually incriminate you too... On another site, a person was following behind a car when the lead car braked for no apparent reason and she ran up the back. The video was posted to ask advice if the other driver could be blamed for dangerous driving but she got absolutely slammed because she was too close... The fact that the lead car braked randomly is purely a matter for the police to address (if they want) A relative of mine was rear ended at a roundabout as he waited on his bike. Do they all change together? I go through a junction like that and the first set go red but the second set (for a crossing) stay green. It's common to see drivers only realise at the last minute they have to stop, although I've never seen anyone go straight through. My incident was at Martyrs Avenue and he would have FIVE red lights
Was the van driver going at some speed? To be harsh it's a bit remiss of you not to check, although if you'd stopped you'd have probably been rear-ended by the following car.

They all do seem to be on different timing patterns... Was the van driver going at some speed? To be harsh it's a bit remiss of you not to check, although if you'd stopped you'd have probably been rear-ended by the following car.
As for the "too fast/not looking", by the time i saw him it was inevitable
Good luck on this. Glad you're OK. Might one of his screen-mounted devices have been another dashcam? Now mysteriously disappeared...

Really? Ignoring the OP's photos above, you drive past hundreds or thousands of such side roads every year. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
